Amendment to the US-Thai Treaty of Amity?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing amendment to the US-Thai Treaty of Amity. I had someone ask me the other day if I ever thought it would be amended or it could be amended and my response was "well it has been."

If you go back in the history of the US-Thai Treaty of Amity, it goes back to 1833. That is when the first Treaty I believe of Navigation and Commerce it was called at the time, between Thailand and the United States was promulgated and then since then there have been a few iterations but the most recent one, the latest amendment if you will was promulgated, signed and ratified in 1966 by his late Majesty King Rama 9 and I believe Lindon Johnson as President of the United States and ratified by the Senate I believe again in 1966. So that has been the latest sort of iteration of the Treaty and that is the Treaty the provisions of which we are currently dealing with here in 2022. Personally I think and hope it will probably continue to be the essence of or the actual wording of the Treaty into the foreseeable future, at least that is my hope.

The US-Thai Treaty of Amity provides substantial benefits to American citizens looking to do business here in the Kingdom of Thailand. Most notably, American citizens can own companies 100% in Thailand if they are certified pursuant to the Treaty. Now the Treaty is not completely all encompassing insofar as there are restrictions to the types of business activities that can be undertaken even under the Treaty but it does provide National treatment to virtually any kind of business I can think of really as a practical matter that a foreign national, specifically an American National would wish to undertake here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
