Are Foreigners Using Thais "As Proxies" to Do Business?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing whether or not foreign nationals, in this case we are actually specifically talking about Chinese nationals, are sort of using proxies to do illegal business here in Thailand.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Khao Sod English, that is khaosodenglish.com, the article is titled: Opinion: Why more Thais are becoming anxious about the rise of China. Quoting directly: "They are into many businesses, including de facto taking over local private universities. Or think of new EV plants in Thailand. It appears they could just do business with the most minimum use of Thai Workforce and partners - or use them as proxies." I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail, a lot of information in there, interesting insights.
On the one hand, I'm always pro-Thailand especially in Thailand I'm always, that's how I am going to think. I've had my issues especially with the notion of Chinese police on Thai streets. But that said, generally speaking foreign direct investment and international trade, especially International Trade that benefits Thailand, are generally speaking good things. That said, Thailand does have rules because it has to be extremely aware and it needs to be very vigilant against foreigners taking advantage of her and this is born of a long experience. Through the Colonialism era, the Cold War etc., Thailand has had to stand on her own two feet and there are rules in Thailand against foreigners engaging in certain occupations, owning certain types of businesses and those that use proxies, nominees, which are illegal under the Foreign Business Act to circumvent the restrictions on foreign activity in Thailand, could find themselves having real problems in a legal sense.
So those who are looking to set up a business here in Thailand it's probably a good idea, contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
