The Benefits of Amity Certifying a Thai Company?
Transcript of the above video:
The thumbnail for this video may throw some people off; like 'what is this they are talking about, crapping on the flag or something?' Okay, there's a link in the description below to a clip from a film called The Other Guys. Great movie with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg from some years back. Every once in a while, oftentimes when I'm doing emails, especially routine emails, or I'm doing work here in the office like research and things, I'll have videos on in the background - maybe it's on my computer screen, maybe it's on the TV screen we have in here, whatever - I'll have videos on in the background. Oftentimes movies I've seen a million times so it's sort of like an electronic hearth if you will just sort of in the background of me doing whatever I'm doing. And I have got to be honest, the movie The Other Guys was on in the background while I was doing research and talking, I was actually writing an email after doing research on some Amity stuff, this clip popped up with this guy talking about a desktop. It's basically it's a funny little scene, again I'll put a link to the clip in the description below, but basically yeah it's a funny little sort of bit right there where they try to convince Will Ferrell's character to shoot his gun in the office basically; it's kind of a Keystone Cops kind of moment, but there's this line where one of the other Police Officers in the scene is trying to bully him and he says we "honour the flag around here and you crap on it when you fail to shoot your gun in the office". It's just a funny little scene. I think the guy in the scene that says the line is actually a former Marine if I'm not mistaken; I think I saw him in an interview once. But in any event, yeah, it's just funny. I'm not saying anything derogatory about the flag or anything, I almost made the video to make them meme frankly.
That being said it is a pertinent question. There are many benefits associated with Amity Treaty Certification here in Thailand. Thai Companies here in Thailand generally have to deal with the vagaries of the Foreign Business Act but under the provisions of the US-Thai Treaty of Amity, Americans and American businesses doing business here in Thailand, can receive "National Treatment" in order to do business here. So, for that reason, there are a number of significant benefits not least of which being full ownership of a Thai Corporation notwithstanding the provisions of the FBA that can accrue to an American or an American business operation here in Thailand, that's a major one. As I've discussed in other videos, there can be significant positive tax ramifications in the context of Amity certified companies as well as I discussed at length in other videos.
But long story short, if you are an American looking to do business here in Thailand, a really major and substantial benefit and possibly even indirect sort of tertiary benefits, can be gained for you to do business here in this country and in the region of Southeast Asia after gaining certification under the US-Thai Treaty of Amity.
