Can I Just Let My Thai Work Permit Expire?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video questions, "Can I just let my Work Permit expire?" We have discussed this at length in other videos, basically the long story short is we are talking about this when folks often are looking to leave a job and then start on another job.
In the past you could just sort of let your work from it lapse and just kind of move on. These days, if you fail to actively cancel it, it can create a great deal of problem. It can create many problems down the line because if you don't cancel your Work Permit correctly, it may not be possible or it may be very difficult to get another one. So, not only is it important to go through the proper formalities of getting one's Work Permit issued and maintained, but it is also important terminating it correctly as well. You have to deal with the termination in the correct manner so that you don't lose the ability to get another Work Permit or another Business Visa. I do know folks that have had issues with employers in the past couple of years where they may have gotten at odds with each other and the employer isn't so keen to help them properly end their Work Permit. But long story short, that assistance needs to be granted if there is no untoward activity that has gone on in the relationship, if it's just a matter of somebody wanting to move on to other employment. Yeah but it is really important from a formality standpoint to properly terminate one's Work Permit or change one's Work Permit correctly so as to be able to maintain status, work authorized status specifically, in the Kingdom of Thailand over the long term.
