Does The US-Thai Treaty Of Amity Imply A "Special Relationship"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the US-Thai Treaty of Amity. For those who are unaware, the US-Thai Treaty of Amity allows Americans and American Companies to come to Thailand and do business with what is called national treatment. Pursuant to the provisions of the Foreign Business Act in Thailand, most foreign nationals are going to be required to set up some kind of 49/51 type of structure unless they can obtain some sort of special concession from the Thai Government to allow for foreign ownership under some kind of special Foreign Certification.

That said, under the terms of the Thai Treaty of Amity, it is possible for Americans to do business with national treatment meaning that Americans can do business, they can own their companies 100% notwithstanding the provisions of the Foreign Business Act and knows particularly special concession needs to be granted. So it's a major benefit. The question posed by this video is does the existence of the Treaty sort of imply a special relationship between the United States and Thailand? I would argue history if anything, bares out that there is in fact a special relationship between the United States and Thailand because we have been friends and Treaty partners and allies for nearly 200 years actually at this point. The most recent iteration of the Treaty was ratified in 1966 but the relationship between Thailand and the United States goes back 190 years including the Treaty of Navigation and Commerce and then that evolved over time into what we currently have which is the Treaty of Amity.

So the thing to take away from this video is not only is the Treaty of Amity a very effective tool for those Americans who are looking to do business here in the Kingdom, but it also, yes I think it is ample evidence of the special relationship between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Thailand.
