"The Great Reopening" in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the notion of the "Great Reopening". I have seen this hashtag percolating on the internet a little bit. It is sort of in response, a play on the "Great Reset" and the overall situation we are dealing with in the world today, but I thought it was good for a title for this video.

In a recent article from Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: COVID Control Restrictions Eased From Monday. Quoting directly: "COVID-19 restrictions are being relaxed in most areas allowing some closed businesses and activities to resume on Monday but substantial controls remain in place throughout the red-zone provinces in the greater Bangkok cluster."  So there is a lot in there. I have seen a lot of articles where they have gone through and explained what we are looking at, at least tentatively moving forward for the next probably at least a week and I suspect things will change thereafter. Largely we are seeing things reopen, the easing happening. Here in Bangkok there is a little bit more overall strictness. Again I am not going to get into detail on that particularly. It should be noted that Samut Sakhon remains under rather stringent lockdown measures.

The thing to take away from this video is I think, and again I get burned from time to time trying to make predictions, but I think we are hopefully if you look forward at the totality of everything, this easing is coming on. We are seeing reports that vaccination shipments are going to be forthcoming here in Thailand quite quickly, at least in the coming weeks, so I think overall it is not unsound to argue that the worm has turned for lack of better term. I want to be clear I don't think this is going to happen overnight but where perhaps about a year ago the trend was starting to move toward things getting increasingly locked down, ratcheting down, I think things are kind of throttling back a little bit. I think it is safe to presume that the beginning of February things for lack of better term are going to get better rather than frankly worse. I hope that is the case. Certainly I am not trying to have some sort of bias based on my own personal preferences, I certainly hope that is the case. Based on what I am seeing things of things are starting to relax and then on top of it we are seeing reports that vaccinations especially are going to be coming in as the weeks progress.

I am hoping based on all of this that we are seeing the beginning of the end of this whole thing or the beginning of something new where we are starting to see things relax and things starting to reopen. Perhaps in phases, we have certainly seen that before but with some more sustainability, more staying power things are going to move forward in a much more normalized fashion. Now that said, again I have been burned on this before, so we will keep you updated on this channel as the situation progresses.
