Thai Authorities to "Reclaim Land Illegally Occupied by Foreigners"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the further ongoing proactive measures by Thai Law Enforcement to deal with foreign nationals who are believed to be encroaching on Thai land. Let's jump into this.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent posting on X from the Thai Enquirer, that's @ThaiEnquirer on X, the title is: Phuket targets Illegal Foreign Land Holdings, Gives 4000 Businesses 15 Days to Register. Quoting further: "Phuket Authorities have been ordered to crack down on illegal foreign land ownership and nominee arrangements while more than 4,000 unlicensed hotel and entertainment venues have been given until July 2 to apply for permits and enter the legal system. Deputy Interior Ministers Polpheer Suwannachee and Worasit Liangprasit issued the directive during a visit to Phuket on June 18, instructing agencies to investigate illegal land holdings and businesses linked to foreign nominees and take action against offenders. The Interior Ministry also launched a consultation clinic to help hotel and entertainment venue operators obtain licences and resolve regulatory obstacles. Polpheer said the Government would push to amend hotel and entertainment venue laws to better reflect current business conditions and encourage operators outside the system to register. He said authorities also aimed to reclaim land illegally occupied by foreigners and bring unresolved issues under closer scrutiny. Worasit said authorities would reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers for legal businesses while intensifying enforcement against operators who continue to violate the law."
Yeah, I mean I can't put any much finer point on it than this. They don't want foreign nationals owning land; they don't want them using corporate structures to try to own land; they don't want this. And they are doing things, I mean look I talked about it, they even brought in the Army on certain aspects of this stuff. I mean these two folks are Deputy Interior Ministers and they both went down to Phuket specifically to sort of kick this mechanism in motion if you will; to trigger this mechanism. Again, 4,000 businesses - they're scrutinizing everything, everybody.
At the end of the day, I think it's safe to presume that law enforcement is going to continue being proactive about foreign nationals that have any type of interest in land here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
