Thai Bank Accounts: Personal, Corporate, and Online Accounts

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing bank accounts here in Thailand. Banking in Thailand is something that comes up not only in a personal capacity but there's Corporate Banking and obviously we live in the modern world and there is an online banking component.

The thing that strikes many when they are dealing with Corporate Banking here in Thailand the first time is the fact that there is this whole notion of a Current Account and a Savings Account. If you want to sort of make everything move more smoothly, you have to do sort of auto linking to put the two accounts together so that you can sort of write checks out of one's savings account rather than have to deal with it out of the current account. For a variety of different reasons, it is far more convenient to sort of auto link the accounts. Then, on top of that, getting online banking which once one has online banking that can be a great deal more convenient than trying to deal with the everyday sort of paperwork and everything associated with Banking in Thailand especially Corporate Banking in Thailand.

Yeah we are, it is interesting to do business over here because paper cheques are still a real thing and they are frequently used especially in a Corporate context. Now personal banking for retirees and things over here, I think most of those folks will find that things like online banking and having a debit card, those kind of things it is pretty well similar to the West. Somebody gets a personal savings account and they can deal with it in a similar manner to how they would deal with it in the West. But again, just as a general rule I would say dealing with Banking in Thailand, it is going to be more cumbersome than folks are used to dealing with it in the West, especially in a Corporate context.
