Thai Company Setup: How Many Employees Are Required?
Transcript of the above video:
A question I get from a lot of folks looking to set up a company here in Thailand is how many employees am I required to have. And I think this is one of those situations where folks are kind of conflating two different issues. Totally understandable to an outsider especially a new person here or somebody who has really never dealt with the Thai Company set up before. It is not really surprising that there might be some confusion so this video isn't really designed to say "oh well how can you not know how that works?" Well there are million reasons you cannot know how that works because it is kind of an obscure thing to know.
Long story short, is No, there are no employee requirements associated with a Thai company set up in and of itself. But I think what people are conflating that requirement with is especially with an SME, where you have got somebody who is looking at a standard Thai Business Visa, and a standard Thai Work Permit yeah four Thai employees are required in order to maintain long-term Work Permit and B Visa status and depending on, well if I just said four Thai employees and I think I did, it actually depends on the type of Visa one is dealing with when dealing with the work authorization side. So if you are dealing with a Business Visa and a Thai Work Permit, you are looking at four Thai employees required in order to get that Business Visa and Work Permit on the books. If you were talking about somebody who is in Thailand on a Marriage Visa looking to get a Work Permit, you are talking two Thai employees as opposed to four; it is just kind of a benefit they granted to those who are married to a Thai and working in Thailand, yeah, there is no other word for it, it is just basically a benefit.
But again and to round out this video, we are talking about Work Permits and visas when we are talking about employee ratios, we are not talking about Thai company set up itself. Those who just need a Thai Company to operate a business in whatever capacity and don't necessarily need a Work Permit or a Visa associated with that entity, well the issue of employee ratio just is a moot one, it is not an issue at all.
