Thai Tourism Related Business Registration Up in 2023?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing tourism related businesses specifically in the context of business registration. For those who are unaware, yes it is possible to register a tourism related business here in Thailand; it is possible to register many types of businesses here in Thailand, we assist with business registration frequently.
That said, tourism related businesses are highly, highly restricted and in some cases completely restricted to foreign nationals, something to bear in mind, but this was a bit of good news. I thought it making this video, after reading a recent article in the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Registrations for tourism businesses grow in 2023. Quoting directly: "The country's tourism sector has experienced a robust recovery based on new registrations of business tourism-related businesses in the first four months of this year. The majority of new registrations in this segment comprise: foreign currency exchange, travel agencies, tour guides, restaurants and food enterprises and hotels, resorts and serviced apartments." So obviously, all of those things are very much within the bailiwick of tourism and for that reason they are probably, things like running a restaurant for example, no you are not going to need like a special license like a Tourism Authority of Thailand, TAT license; foreign currency exchange for example, those require specific types of licensing associated with that; travel agencies and tour guides, now that may be wholly restricted to Thais. It may not be possible for a foreign national to even have anything to do with that. Food enterprises, hotels, resorts and serviced apartments: now again as we have discussed in other videos, foreign nationals are restricted from ownership of Thai property but that doesn't preclude them from operating certain types of businesses that may operate on a piece of Thai property or gaining a lease wherein they can operate a business for a certain period of time on a Thai property such as possibly a hotel for example. Again Hotel licensing, there is a great deal of compliance, regulatory compliance associated with that.
So those who are interested in registering a business in Thailand, it may not be a bad idea to go ahead and contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
