As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing what is being hailed as the Thailand FastPass. I'll go ahead and jump in here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent posting on X from Thai Enquirer that's @ThaiEnquirer on X, quoting directly: "Government pushes FastPass Scheme, trade deals at APCE business meeting. The Government is pushing its Thailand FastPass programme to cut regulatory barriers and speed up investment approvals, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Tuesday at an APEC business meeting in Bangkok. Opening the third APEC Business Advisory Council meeting of 2026. Anutin said the programme was intended to reduce duplicated procedures, improve coordination among state agencies and make investment processes faster and more predictable. He also called for stronger regional supply chains amid geopolitical uncertainty, citing the need for clear regulations, efficient logistics, diversified sourcing and open markets. The Government also supports high-quality free trade agreements to improve market access and provide clearer rules for long-term investment, he said, adding that it would consider ABAC recommendations for possible policy action." 

So, on its face, I think this is probably not a terrible idea. Yeah, reducing duplicative bureaucracy, duplicative processes, streamlining bureaucracy, bureaucratic procedures. That said, I have to bring this up which is we have seen all of this talk of all of these different types of programmes throughout various aspects of Thailand, the United States. "Oh, we have digitized this, we have turned that into an app, or whatever." I am very skeptical. Now I could be dead wrong; I would love to be dead wrong; I would love it if this FastPass thing rolls out and yes, it does make it easier for folks to come to Thailand, invest money and do business. But just from what I have seen the last year, especially with regard to banking, all this outside influence when it's come to Banking, and "oh, we are digitizing this, that and the other thing", and "we are making things more efficient". Efficient for what? The only thing I have seen it made more efficient for is the bureaucracy, because a lot of times what they do is they front-load everything, and make the actual applicant do everything that was once their job, where in the past you basically filed documentation and they had to process it. Now, you have to do all the things that they do. 

Now I'm not saying that is what is happening with this FastPass, but I'm remaining skeptical; that's my only point. That said, if it is what it touts to be, it could be a major benefit to the business community here in Thailand, and for that reason, we will certainly be keeping folks updated on this channel, as the situation evolves.
