Timing of Thai Business Visa and Work Permit Renewal

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Business Visa and Work Permit renewal in Thailand.

We are discussing this because there are some timing issues with respect to this. Oftentimes the way that it works is you usually, especially those who are self-employed, they come to Thailand, get a 90 day Business Visa they get their Work Permit. The two things, it is two different documents so you are dealing with two different agencies. You are dealing with Thai Ministry of Labour in the case of Work Permits, Thai Immigration in the case of Business Visas and it is not all probably going to be done in one day. Now there is One Stop Service for certain BOI certified Companies as well as certain larger operations but for the most part with respect to SMEs here in Thailand you are not going to be big enough to avail yourself of that so you are dealing with kind of a tethered Work Permit to your Business Visa or vice versa if you want to look at it that way but they won't oftentimes even expire on the same day. They will expire usually a week or two apart just because of the timing of how you get them. So you need to really kind of plan ahead or if you are dealing with a legal professional, they kind of deal with all that for you; it is sort of built into the service or it should be if they are any good.

When you are looking at this just be aware that the month or the month period surrounding your Business Visa and Work Permit renewal, you should be aware that a lot of time is going to be expended not so much doing anything but just getting those two things done as it is not one unified thing being renewed, it is two different documents being renewed within a relatively similar period of time but not exactly at the same time.
