Timing of Thai Work Permit Renewal

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Work Permits. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel: "Hi Ben, is it a new rule that you have to extend your Work Permit before extending your non-B Visa?" No, that has pretty much been the way I have ever seen it done.

For those who are unaware, in Thailand if you have a Business Visa, a standard Business Visa, you need to go ahead and obtain a Work Permit or just generally speaking all foreigners need work authorization in Thailand in order to undertake any kind of work. And as we have discussed multiple times on this channel, the definition of work in Thailand is very, very broad, it's not this sort of narrow thing. A lot of people say "well, if I am", and they give me all kinds of these hypothetical scenarios, look work is just very broadly defined; you know if you are working in Thailand. So yeah, for working in Thailand you need a Work Permit. The question here posed is "do I have to extend it before I extend my Business Visa extension?" Generally speaking, yes that has always been my experience. Now I suspect there are cases or there are circumstances in a given situation, may put you in a position where maybe you are dealing with an extension of Visa before you are dealing with extension of Work Permit but I have got to be honest, I think that is few and far between from a factual standpoint. I just don't think you are going to frequently see somebody in a position where they are going to be renewing their Work Permit after extending their Business Visa.
