Annual Personal Income Tax Return Filing in Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Personal Income Tax or personal tax return filings in the Kingdom.  I get this question rather frequently from folks. They basically ask, "Do I have to file a tax return in the Kingdom?"

Well that would depend on your circumstances. There are some people that are clearly going to need to file; for example foreign nationals with a work permit here in the Kingdom. They have to obtain a salary. Generally speaking there is even a statutory minimum salary associated with a Work Permit and for that reason, those individuals, most of time the statutory minimum requires filing of a tax return. So it is pretty safe to say that even foreigners here in the Kingdom, definitely foreigners here the Kingdom who are working are going to have to file. Now other folks who are perhaps past investors in a Corporation here in the Kingdom or some sort of Enterprise, they may as well need to go ahead and file a tax return. This also may be the case with those who have various real estate holdings here in the Kingdom depending on the circumstances. For example foreigners can own Thai condominiums here. That may or may not require the filing of a tax return or I should say income derived from that condo ownership may require the filing of a tax return here.

That being stated, foreigners often times get rather exasperated in dealing with the Thai tax system. We have a division here at our firm that provides assistance with Thai Corporate Services as well as accounting, as well as Personal Tax matters.  I am an American Tax attorney. I do assist in Corporate Tax advisory matters as it pertains to the US System, especially the US system when it is sort of brought abroad, the broader scope kind of stuff as well as assisting folks with their Personal Tax matters, especially Americans I should say, with their personal Tax matters notwithstanding the fact that they are here, as Americans are subject to tax on their worldwide income as a result of the tax system and the way it is set up in the United States.

So those of you who are watching this video who are interested in such matters please feel free to contact us as we may be able to provide assistance with both the Thai accounting and tax matters as well as the American aspects of similar circumstances.
