Are American Tax "Stamp-Pimps" Trying to Destroy the US-Thai Amity Treaty?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, yet again I have to sit around talking about foreign tax stamp-pimps over here in Thailand. And I was thinking about it the other day, as I have discussed in other videos, there are many benefits associated with the US-Thai Treaty of Amity, most notably is our great and long relationship with the Thais.
I mean the alliance over here goes on over 190 years now in and that is evidenced by the Treaty itself, but we have been hanging out with the Thais as our buddies in Southeast Asia – and by "our" I mean Americans - have been hanging out with the Thais as their buddies in Southeast going back for 200 years now, we've had communications with Kingdom of Thailand, then called Siam and we're great friends. We're Treaty allies. I mean honestly, the Thais are the people that are most like Kansans I've ever met outside of Kansas, and I'm not kidding about that. It is one of the reasons I live here.
The point I am trying to make though with this video is unfortunately, as we have discussed, not unfortunately as we discussed in other videos, but as we have discussed in other videos, look the Treaty has a number of benefits, including possible benefits in the context of US Tax, as I've discussed. The nature of them being domestic non-resident corporations etc. create a number of interesting permutations in American Tax analysis.
Now that said, my question posed by this video is that why the Tax Stamp-Pimps, the so-called Enrolled Agents from the IRS are being sent out here to Thailand, to illegally I might add, advise on Thai Tax matters notwithstanding the restrictions on that activity under the Restricted Occupations here in Thailand, these people are complete contravention of Thai Law. Meanwhile, my big question is why are Agents of any Federal institution able to operate in this way? Where is their official passport? Why aren't they operating correctly? And is it now the policy of the IRS to come in and attack our ally’s Tax system through use of foreign tax stamp-pimps? Is that the policy of IRS? To undermine our Treaty with the Thais in that way? Is that policy of IRS? I really ask the question. Because it would appear from your actions as an institution, that is exactly what you are trying to do out here. You're trying to undermine a 200-year Treaty between two Peoples and this undermining is unnecessary. And you are trying to come out here and tax a bunch of expats who have already paid taxes back in their home countries, so what are you doing out here? That's my question.
At the end of the day. I'm sick of this. Thailand is its own country. We should not have foreign agents filing into Thailand, illegally, trying to harass Americans here.
