"Foreigners Do Pay Tax When Using a Credit Card" in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, I am kind of doing a little bit of a correction here because in a prior video - it's not so much of a correction, it's more basically, I need to kind of specify a little bit more what I was talking about. In a prior video, I said, "Hey look using a credit card per se is not a taxable event." And again, I stand by that because when you utilize a credit card, you are using credit; you are basically having a loan issued to you and again depending on how you pay that back, there may not be a taxable event. That said, if there is a taxable event, it's an event on the bank from making money off of you in terms of interest, it's not your taxable event, the person using the credit card.
But that being said somebody put a comment on that video and notwithstanding the fact I've done a recent video contemporaneously with this one, where I call into question folks talking about tax advice on our channel, which I really hate. Stop giving people conclusions; stop drawing conclusions and saying to people on this channel in the comments, "hey you need to do this." You don't know what you're talking about; you have never met these people; you don't know the facts of their situation; you really don't even understand frankly the details of how all this stuff works. Just be quiet. Stop doing that in the comments, okay? That said, every now and again we do get comments and I do kind of peruse the comments, more my staff here in the office look at them more than I do, but I do see the comments from time to time and sometimes there is something that does add to the conversation, rather than just, I also have questions about whether or not some of these people are bots that have been effectively paid for. Again Janet Yellen, this is her pipe dream. Apparently when she was doing mushrooms with Xi Jinping in her trip up there, she came up with this Global Minimum Tax that we are all supposed to now deal with and she released all of these IRS agents - some of whom are here in Thailand illegally telling everybody what they need to do with regard to the Thai Tax system - she released all of these cretins out onto the general public and we are now having to deal with this stuff over here.
Long story short, again going back to this comment, quote: "Once again you provide great advice, but the truth is we foreigners do pay tax when using a credit card and that is the 7% VAT. I know there are some exemptions and rebates so most pay taxes when using a credit card, debit card or cash." Well yeah, because there is no way around 7% VAT when you are utilizing a credit card you are clearly going to be using that. That is a good point. Thailand does have VAT which by the way they ruled in VAT precisely to get rid of tax clearances. If you go back into late '80s, early '90s when they talked about how this all changed, they rolled out the VAT to get rid of the very thing they're bringing back now. We are already paying the taxes that supposedly were what we got rid of this system for in the first place, okay. This is what I'm sick and tired of. Governments never cease to gorge themselves on taxes and bureaucrats can't live without them. I remember watching, I think was like VH1 Behind the Music where they were talking about MC Hammer and they were talking about "oh how did you go broke Hammer? You had 50 million dollars at one point. You went broken like a year." And he said, "My Entourage. I had to pay for all these people." That's the thing. That's where all the money goes. It goes into the sinkhole of these bureaucrats' salaries, okay. And that's why they are coming after everybody for tax. They are desperate for it because all their nanny-mindering shut us down economically for two and a half years; there's air in the line if you will in terms of the money, the revenue pipeline. They are not getting it and they want it. Well, next time don't shut us down, and this is us all being in this together by the way, okay? You didn't have to deal with the negative side at the front end when we were all shut down not making any money. No, you're dealing with it now and now you want to tax us more and reimpose the system that already existed and supposedly was replaced by VAT and the purpose of the VAT was to replace it. Now you want it in addition to VAT, so I'm sick of all of you stamp-pimps, all of you, stop it. This needs to end. We need to have a normal, reasonable tax system here in Thailand not globalist wealth extraction.
