Looking Ahead At Thai Tax Policy In 2024

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Tax Policy. This is an often discussed thing amongst the expat community. I have had many, many people very concerned talking to me about what will Thai Tax Policy look like? Well we have a pretty good idea what it is going to look like. They have rescinded the memo that allowed for buffering of or I should say mitigation of Thai accessible tax liability or I should say mitigation of assessment of possible liability; we have seen that in with this memo that says you can no longer sort of time it out so that you are not subject to Thai Tax and now we are kind of on a more harmonized if you will system with the rest of the world. If anything, Thailand just came in line with the rest of the world; it is not a matter of Thailand’s system has gotten better or worse, it is just kind of being regularized if you will to the rest of the world's tax systems in line with Thailand's Double Tax Treaty obligations etc.

Now again, I don't think things are going to greatly change in 2024. As I have discussed in other videos, I think where you are going to see the practical implications of this policy change is going to be in 2025 when we are actually looking at filing tax returns for the year 2024, from that point forward. So as a practical matter, I don't think a lot is going to change on a day-to-day level in the year 2024, but I have a pretty good feeling that 2025 is probably going to see some major changes compared to what we are looking at as of the end of 2023.
