A Tax ID Required For Thai Business Visa Extension?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are asking the question, "Is Tax ID required for Business Visa Extension"? I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Western retirees in Thailand feeling rather insecure. Quoting directly, and I urge those watching this video go check out that article in detail, a lot of good information in there. Quoting directly: "Whilst there is no doubt the revenue", (I think they mean the Revenue Department), "has principally in mind offshore and overseas income from businesses or windfalls or currency manipulation profits, the implications for the typical retiree or foreigner married to a Thai remain a mystery for now. One scenario could be that the renewal of an annual visa might within a year or two require a TIN (Tax Identification Number) obtained on application to the Internal Revenue Service. Possession of a TIN does not necessarily mean tax is liable on you. But it would be another hassle." Yeah, so in this excerpt they are talking specifically about Marriage and Retirement Visas which are visas that have never required a Tax Identification Number per se to deal with Visa Extension but we are talking about Business Visas in this video and I wanted to kind of contrast the two.

Yeah, on a Thai Business Visa application, it is generally always required that a TIN number be in existence because anybody with a Business Visa that is extending their status in Thailand presumably has a Work Permit and if they do indeed have a Work Permit then their activities, their employment activities in Thailand are taxable hence the need for a Tax Identification Number. In virtually all of the cases involving this visa extension here in Thailand, Bangkok, Pattaya, wherever, we see the application package if you will, requiring the inclusion of a Tax ID number. So, it is just one of these things that generally speaking is going to be required in connection with Business Visa Extension here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
