"Thai Revenue Department Are Very, Very Far from Being Comprehensive"?

Transcripts of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai Revenue Department. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is patttaymail.com, the article is titled: Thai lawyer updates retirees on personal income tax. As I have discussed in other videos, I am quoting this article, I want to disseminate it far and wide. I want folks to get real information, real data points from real professionals. Pattaya Mail, I think Barry Kenyon wrote the article; tip of the hat to him. He is quoting a real professional, an actual Thai professional, an actual Thai lawyer providing insight and advice regarding Thai Tax Matters, not foreign charlatans who have no business whatsoever advising anyone regarding matters pertaining to Thai Law.

That said, quoting directly, again, Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com: Thai lawyer updates retirees on personal income tax. Quote: "It's worth recalling that less than 20% of all Thais today have ever filled in a personal tax form in their lives. Whilst it is true that Thai Authorities want both to increase and diversify tax revenues -- as all neighbouring countries also desire -- the databases available to the Thai Revenue Department are very, very far from being comprehensive." Yeah, and this is another big issue I have had with what I have called in the past the stamp pimps, the charlatans, the fakes, the foreigners coming in here claiming to be able to provide Thai Tax advice illegally in direct flouting violation of the restricted occupations as are even posted on the Department of Employment's website in English. They disregard all of that and they put people into a position where they are filing tax returns that they might not need to file. Let's also bear in mind that when you are doing that, you are basically opening yourself up, you are making yourself a target. In a sense, I am not trying to be too hyperbolic, it's like putting on the ring in Lord of the Rings when Frodo puts on the ring and then the Eye of Sauron can see him. When you file a tax return, the Eye of that Revenue Department, the eye of that collection agency now falls upon you and as is noted by this professional, noted in this article, and I urge those who are watching this video go check that out for further edification, but as pointed out, again the Revenue Department are very, very far from being comprehensive, okay. My point is you may not be being noticed at all and these foreign charlatans have induced people - in an effort to drum up business for themselves unduly and illegally I might add, in an effort to drum up business for themselves - have told people to file things that they might not otherwise have needed to file and now they are on the radar of the Tax Authorities, and this is my problem. And again, these foreign charlatans are causing all sorts of damage to the people that they claim they are helping most or that they are targeting for help, they are actually putting in a detrimental position overall, and again of a system that might not otherwise have even noticed them to begin with as noted by a colleague that is cited in this article.

So the thing to take away from this video and understand is Revenue Department is what it is. You need to have narrowly tailored advice based on the specific fact pattern in a given case regarding one's tax liability before running headlong into the arms of tax enforcement agencies. So that primarily more than anything is the thing to take away from this video.
