"Big Joke" Ferrets Out Frozen Fishmongers in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
The title of this video might seem a little odd insofar as "Big Joke" Ferreting out the Frozen fishmongers in Thailand, what are we talking about here? Well I have kind of kept track of "Big Joke" for quite some time. He came on my personal radar when he became the Head of Immigration and he has just been interesting to watch since then. Here recently, this one would not have otherwise caught my eye but it does pertain to law enforcement here in Thailand specifically import-export as well. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Senior officials arrested for sale of seized frozen fish." Quoting directly: "Five State officials and two civilians," (I state that again), "Five State officials and two civilians have been arrested for the alleged involvement in the sale of frozen fish." Quoting further: "A combined team of police and officials from the Customs and Fisheries Departments arrested the seven suspects, including a former director of the Bangkok Port Customs Office and senior customs officials, Deputy National Police Chief, Police Gen Surachate Hakparn said during a media briefing on Thursday."
I urge those who are watching this video, go read that article in detail, a lot of interesting insight in there. But, I have got to say, Big Joke is relentless in law enforcement activities and frankly when you get into sort of the meat and potatoes of the article, it's really not as, I'm not trying to make this sound snarky or funny, it's an important issue, I mean because there was no licensing associated with the fisheries in question. As we have noted in other videos, Thailand has had issues with regard to Labour Law associated with migrant workers especially in a maritime context so this is not an unserious matter and it is not something that is not deserving of attention from law enforcement etc., but it wouldn't be the first thing you would think of when you think of major issues in terms of law enforcement. But yet again, again we have followed Big Joke for so long that it just kind of came up on my radar and I thought it was worth noting.
Again go check out that article in detail but yeah, again illegally importing products, be it frozen fish or anything else for that matter, into Thailand can lead to really serious legal consequences. So those who are looking to import products into the Kingdom, it's a good idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
