As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing "Big Joke" yet again. A lot of developments with regard to this case. I guess we are just going to kind of cover it just on down the line; good data points for folks who are curious about the way certain aspects procedurally of the Thai legal and law enforcement systems work here in Thailand, so that's sort of the reason why we are covering this. 

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: Big Joke drops case against the PM as his nameplate and photo have been removed at Royal Thai Police HQ. Quoting directly: "Big Joke drops case against PM. His nameplate and photo were removed at Royal Thai Police HQ, (Headquarters). The National Anti-Corruption Commission however confirms an ongoing investigation into the PM. Big Joke's era ends as his nameplate vanishes and website photos are removed. Surachate inexplicably withdraws his malfeasance charges against the PM." Quoting further: "On Tuesday, the Secretary General of the Anti-Corruption Agency revealed that General Surachate Hakparn (that is Big Joke) had withdrawn his malfeasance report against Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. The top official however explained that substantial allegations made by General Surachate relating to his removal from the police force remain. At the same time, he further explained that the Prime Minister is already being investigated over the affair. It followed a complaint from the former Police Chief, Party leader and MP, General Sereepisuth Temeeyaves. Additionally on Tuesday, in what appears like a death knell for General Surachate's future as a policeman, it was made known his nameplate was removed from his former office at Royal Thai Police headquarters. Simultaneously, his name and photo were removed from the Police website."

I don't know what that means exactly per se. I think they are good data points. Yet again I urge those who are watching this video go check out Thai Examiner, thaiexaminer.com, they usually do a pretty darn good job of getting into the in-depth details of these kind of matters. Again I've said it before and I will say it again, one thing after watching him for so long, Big Joke tends to be kind of a survivor so I am not, just because his nameplate or whatever has been taken down, that may or may not necessarily mean that this is the end of his police career. Again he's undergoing or he's the subject of intense scrutiny both inside the Police Department, sort of adjudications within their ranks if you will. I kind of liken that process - I have made another video on this - I kind of liken it to something semi-analogous to the Exhaustion Doctrine in various bureaucracies under Administrative Law in the United States where you sort of have to go up through an internal adjudicative process before coming out and then dealing with sort of standard legal proceedings. That seems to be the case here for Big Joke.

Now again how this pans out remains to be seen and certainly these remain allegations until such time as guilt is adjudicated per due process under Thai Law. That said, again I state again and I'm not holding out false hope here, I hope I'm not, but I've seen Big Joke completely seem to be extricated entirely from the Police before only to have him return. Now I am not saying that will happen here, all I'm saying is this isn't the first time we have seen Big Joke really in a situation where it looked like his career might be over and then lo and behold he came back. So I'm not saying again that's going to happen but it has happened in the past. Again this is a really interesting case. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
