Drugs in Thailand Are Never a Good Idea

Transcript of the above video:

I have done a lot of videos about legalization of Cannabis here in Thailand. We are all aware that Cannabis is legal now in Thailand. Those who want to come to Thailand in order to enjoy the sensations of Cannabis, feel free - if you are over 20 and you are not a pregnant woman. Those are our rules here in Thailand.

That said, look hard drugs are something that I don't think you are ever going to see any kind of compromise with here in Thailand. People have asked me, they have said, "oh well what about Cannabis?" Well Cannabis has been around forever; it grows in the ground. I mean it grows as much as weeds grow; I mean there's a reason they call it "weed" colloquially sometimes. I have a real issue with illegalizing something that is naturally growing anyway and it doesn't really kill anybody, so on that one I don't view that as a drug. I really like the way they initially came up with the phraseology associated where they said, "hey it's a Controlled Herb, it's an Herb." I think that's pretty on the mark. That said, hard drugs are what they are, and they are terrible, and they have a terrible impact on people.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Khao Sod English, that is  khaosodenglish.com, the article is titled: Swiss - Thai couple's highway drama leads to drug arrest in Chumphon. Quoting directly: "A dramatic highway incident in Chumphon Province took an unexpected turn when both parties were found to be under the influence of methamphetamine." Yeah great idea. I mean, of all the hard drugs, methamphetamine may be the worst. Quoting further: "The incident, which initially went viral on social media on January 17th, showed a distressed woman attempting to exit a moving black Ford pickup while a Western man-made threatening gestures." Yeah getting on meth and driving around leads to these kind of really stupid scenarios. Quoting further: "Tourist Police Officers noticed suspicious behaviour.." - yeah like a woman trying to jump out of a moving car - Quoting further: "..beyond mere alcohol intoxication and detected drug-related odors in the vehicle." Yeah, methamphetamine has kind of a strong scent. Quoting further: "Subsequent urine tests conducted at Phato Hospital confirmed the presence of illegal substances in both individuals. Both suspects have been transferred to Phato Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities are also evaluating the welfare of the child who was present during the incident." And that is the saddest part of all of this, is that these folks were basically subjecting and exposing a child to this kind of activity and was endangering a child under the circumstances. So, I hope there are at least, the libertarian in me on a certain level, doesn't care. People want to put things in their body, whatever, as long as you are not hurting somebody else. Now you shouldn't be driving around because you are under the influence; you could kill somebody. But again, what's even worse in this scenario is that a child was exposed to all of this stuff. So, I hope there's some sort of remedial or some sort of remedy in terms of correction remedy for this at the end of the day.

That being said, again it's never a good idea to engage in drugs anywhere, but here in Thailand it can have especially negative connotations and those who engage in such activity could end up incarcerated for a prolonged period of time.
