Foreigner Arrested for Operating Illegal Beauty Clinic in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well it's another one of these sort of Foreigners Behaving Badly videos and it involves what appears to be an illegal beauty clinic. I thought of making this video after reading a recent posting on X from Khao Sod English, that's @KhaosodEnglish over on X, quoting directly: "A Russian woman has been arrested after authorities uncovered an alleged illegal beauty clinic operating from a Pattaya condominium. Immigration Police said the suspect advertised cosmetic services on Instagram and arranged appointments with clients online. Officers later raided the condo room and seized syringes, fillers, medical equipment and various medications. The woman faces multiple charges, including working without a permit and operating an unlicensed clinic." Yeah, probably on that one - operation of an unlicensed medical facility - would end up probably being a charge that could carry more significant penalties than the work authorization violation, although the work authorization violation is in and of itself a crime.
Now what will likely be the outcome of this? Well I suspect that this person will be subjected to due process and then upon adjudication as to the legality or illegality of the actions involved, if it's deemed that she was acting and operating inappropriately, at least from the standpoint of the clinic side, she might end up with some sort of conviction under the Thai Court System and then face possible deportation. As to the Work Permit violation, if it's deemed that she was in fact working and does not have a Permit, that's a fairly self-evident kind of case. Again everybody in Thailand is innocent until proven guilty, so adjudication is required, but at the end of the day, yeah, the Work Permit violation alone is enough for deportation or it's at least enough of a grounds for deportation.
So the moral of the story, one, don't come to Thailand and work illegally. Really, I can't stress that enough. And I know people shirk these things off; they think it's not a big deal. Thai Authorities take it as a big deal; the Police here take it as a big deal; Immigration Police Grayson take it as big deal. I'm making other videos contemporaneously with this one describing some things going on with regard to anti-nominee provisions coming out in Thai Corporate Law and a lot of this is being driven by some deep, I would say it's hard not to say that there might be a level of resentment coming from locals here in Thailand, because they feel like foreigners are coming in and using economic leverage, using all types of different, less than appropriate business practices, to exploit Thailand and there are concerns about that, and therefore there are policy changes in place, or I should say there are policy changes in motion and these could have substantial implications for those who are looking to come and live and work and do business in Thailand.
And so yet again I stress, if you are looking to come to work in Thailand, to do business in Thailand, you really need to get your ducks in a row with regard to Work Authorization as well as your Visa here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
