Foreigner Arrested in Thailand for Murdering His Spouse?
Transcript of the above video:
Kind of ambivalent about making this video but I think it's worth making if only because it is major legal news; it pertains to foreigners here in Thailand. Immigration is involved in the matter, so all things considered, I think it's relevant to the bailiwick of this channel, so I am going to go ahead and make the video. Obviously, it's a Foreigners Behaving Badly video but this is really quite bad, again presuming the allegations against this person are true. That said, the evidence seems to be pretty darned overwhelming but again until adjudicated, folks are innocent until proven guilty both here in Thailand, as well as in the United States.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Thai Examiner, that is thaiexaminer.com, the article is titled: 58 year old Brit arrested in Maha Sarakham for murdering his Thai wife. Single bullet to the head. Quoting directly: "British man, 58, arrested after Thai wife, 44, was shot dead at Maha Sarakham homestay. Police say he fled with a gun before a multi-province manhunt ended in Khon Kaen. The couple had lived together for over a decade and had two school-age children." Yeah, this is just tragic and again, quoting further: "On Tuesday night, a 58-year-old UK national was taken into custody in northeastern Maha Sarakham after shooting his 44-year-old Thai wife with a .38 calibre handgun earlier that morning. The woman was found lying on her back, having been shot once through the left temple. The man was identified as Mr. Anthony James Condron. The shooting occurred in the Don Hwan area shortly before the alarm was raised at 11.30 am. The woman's family were left in shock as the British man fled the home he shared with his wife. Relatives told police Mr. Condron was known to be highly volatile and had problems with drugs." Quoting further: "Police Commander outlines domestic dispute findings, ongoing search before Condron's arrest. He said initial findings indicated a domestic dispute. In addition, it was confirmed that the suspect was a foreign national. The top officer also confirmed the victim was his wife. He further stated the suspect was believed to be armed. Certainly, the Police considered him dangerous. Officers continue to search multiple provinces. At that time, police noted the suspect had not surrendered. They believe he feared retaliation from the victim's relatives. Authorities said his safety would be ensured in custody. An arrest warrant was prepared. Immigration Authorities were notified to revoke visas. Border and travel alerts were also issued."
I urge those who are watching this video go check out that article on the Thai Examiner website in detail. As they note, he was apprehended to the great relief of law enforcement, folks that were in the area, and I can totally understand under the circumstances why they would be relieved. Again, he's going to go through due process, and again there is going to be some kind of adjudication, if not some sort of plea regarding guilt. So until that time I think it's fair to say, refrain from fully making judgment until such time as an adjudication is made. That said, again the evidence seems to be pretty darned overwhelming. Again sad, it's a sad situation and unfortunately not an unheard-of set of circumstances. Again he will be imported due process, but I expect under the circumstances, he's probably going to be looking at a rather lengthy sentence, incarcerated here in Thailand.
It remains to be seen exactly how all of this plays out. I'm not certain I'm going to keep track of this story. I mean the person has been basically apprehended; we may keep track of it as time goes by, again depending on the posture of the case, and if there are some teaching points that can be brought forward for foreigners here in Thailand. But yeah, tragic situation and many condolences to the family of this woman and hopefully they can find some peace at some point in the future.
