Foreigners Arrested by Thai Police for Robbery "Not Mafia"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing well what appears to be an alleged robbery. We have a question mark in the title with regard to Foreigners Behaving Badly because innocent until proven guilty does prevail here in Thailand, and there seems to be, the suspects in this matter are strongly voicing their innocence or so it is being reported.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from The Pattaya News, that is thepattayanews.com, the article is titled: Three British Suspects Officially Taken into Custody after Denying Charges in 2 million Baht Home Invasion and Pattaya Safe Robbery of Fellow British Expat, Strongly Deny all Charges. Quoting further: "Pattaya, Chonburi - March 2nd, 2026:Three British Nationals accused of a home invasion and robbing a safe containing over 2 million Baht from a home in Pattaya appeared defiant as they were remanded into custody for the first time today, insisting they are "not Mafia". They had previously just been people of interest as discussed here and interviewed." - there's a link in there - Quoting further: "The suspects were brought before the Pattaya Provincial Court this morning after police from Nong Prue Police Station, Regional Police Division 2, Chonburi Provincial Investigation, and Immigration Police transferred them from temporary detention." Quoting further: "The robbery occurred on the night of February 26th, 2026, at a two-storey townhouse in Chokchai Village 9, Moo 10. Masked assailants, armed with knives, stormed the residents of a British chef, now fully identified by Police has 32-year-old British national Wesleigh Cyril Russell, and his Thai partner, threatening the occupants before stealing a safe with more than 2 million baht in cash (recently withdrawn for a home purchase according to them), along with mobile phones. The gang fled in a vehicle after ramming through the estate's gate as we reported here originally." - and there is another link in that article regarding the initial reports. I urge those who are watching this video go check out all of that at thepattayanews.com, it is very exhaustive. They do get into great detail in the reporting on this. But yeah, so apparently the suspects here are claiming their innocence. Again it's all allegation until fully adjudicated through the Thai Courts unless a pleading comes about which again remains to be seen.
More to the point with regard to this video though is what is going on with all the foreigners coming in here and just I mean, it used to be these kind of stories were like once every year maybe you would hear something like this, and now it just seems like it's almost run of the mill, common place. And some of the stuff you read about going on down in Phuket, I don't envy the Thai Police, I really truly don't. I mean they are really having to keep up with a lot of in my opinion ne'er do wells that aren't exactly, they are definitely not exactly quality tourists, let's put it that way. And I expect that this is probably one of the reasons why they are seriously reconsidering the 60-day Visa exemption that is being granted at present, but they have talked about rolling that back to 30 days again as was the case some 2-3 years ago. Also look, I know I brought this up before, but the way the DTV rolled out and the way that it wasn't really, in my opinion it really wasn't well sussed out policy, I can definitely see the new Parliament re-examining that as well. But more again, this isn't really on Thailand. It's not like Immigration Policy can solve this stuff. I don't know what's going on with the Westerners. It's like the folks from back in what we once called the West, they are getting to be as difficult in some cases as folks from places that folks once said - I hate using this terminology because it's really archaic, and it's very pejorative, but it used to be that the West was "so-called" civilized; that was sort of the overwhelming presumption, and in the very old days, they were bringing sort of the light of civilization to the far reaches of the earth and things. I mean that is almost laughable now when you read some of these stories about these Westerners coming to Thailand and just really just running amok for lack of a better term.
We all like to have a good time here, don't get me wrong, but I mean this kind of thing knocking over, robbing a guy's house, and knocking over his safe for the equivalent of $60,000, I mean that's like some stuff in gangster movies or something. And again, once a year this wasn't unheard of. I mean Thailand is Thailand and people do what they do out here. But it just seems like these stories are coming more frequently and I have to imagine there is going to be blowback especially at policy making circles especially in the Immigration apparatus. That being said, it remains to be seen if anything comes of this. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
