Foreigners Behaving Badly: "Pattaya Beach Prostitution Sweep"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well we are discussing foreigners behaving badly. Let's just jump in here. Quoting directly: Foreign women arrested in Pattaya beach prostitution sweep. This is from Bangkok post, bangkokpost.com. "Acting on complaints, investigators from the Chon Buri Immigration Office first observed the behaviour of foreign women believed to be offering sex services near the entrance to Soi 13-13/4 along Pattaya beach in the early hours of Wednesday. Pol Col Napaspong Kositsuriyamanee, the Provincial Immigration Chief, said an undercover foreign agent posing as a tourist took a stroll along the beachfront and was approached by a group of foreign women who offered to have sex with him." Like, how do you put out the advertisement for "hey, we're looking for an undercover foreign agent to pose as a tourist, so that foreign women can offer to have sex with you." That's the job description. Did they put that in the paper, or did that go up on Craigslist or something? Quoting further: "The investigating team documented the interaction before showing up and making arrests. Eight women were taken into custody: five Ugandans, to Uzbeks and one Madagascan. They were charged with openly soliciting for sex in a public place and causing a public nuisance and embarrassment."

I have spoken about this over and over and over again in many other videos. There is a promiscuity element to the definition of "prostitution" in Thailand, and when it interacts with the Entertainment Practices Act of 1966, you get this rubric of "hey the Thai Authorities, Thai Law Enforcement do not care what consenting adults do behind closed doors. Emphasis on "consenting" and "adults". Law Enforcement very much cares about non-consensual activity happening behind closed doors or otherwise, because that's criminal, and they very much care about if they are not adults. If you are coming over here to Thailand and you are thinking you are going to be messing around with children, think again and just move on, just go. Because the ramifications for you here will be dire, and the police are not who you need to worry about. Believe me when I say that. Move along.

But that being said, those are the concerns of Thai Law Enforcement from my observation over nearly 20 years here. So again, what happens behind closed doors between consenting adults, whatever, and anybody that knows the way that things work on the street here in the entertainment districts and things, folks go off to sort of negotiate their 'behind closed doors transactions' seemingly, frequently. But again the lack of being a nuisance and that lack of promiscuity of being sort of to borrow from Common Law vernacular, acting openly and notoriously, in furtherance of solicitation of sexual activities and things of that nature, you're going to find yourself in problems here in Thailand engaging in that as seen from this. That said, quoting further: "Each was fined 1,000 Baht and had their visas revoked. They were taken to Pattaya City Police Station pending deportation." Again that's why this is a Foreigners Behaving Badly video. Thai Law Enforcement is not messing around here, and they are definitely not interested in importing prostitutes; I can say that with a great degree of certainty. And quite honestly, as a tax paying citizen in Thailand, I tend to agree with them. We have got enough issues here; we don't need more.

That being said, the thing to understand about this is the big problem here is one, it pertains to foreigners who are coming over here to engage in at best illicit activity, if not outright illegal activity which is what this rose to in the context of this article. But again, nobody wants folks coming over here to pursue illicit activity and then on top of that, where Thailand does have a rubric for dealing with relations between consenting adults, to completely flout that as a foreigner is just a bad idea in general and it has led to a bad outcome for these individuals.

So that's the thing to take away from this video is if you're coming to Thailand, one, comport with the law. If you're coming to Thailand to engage in illicit activity, maybe think again. And finally understand, that not only working illegally but also just flouting Thai mores, and customs and laws, can lead to a really bad outcome, including deportation from the Kingdom of Thailand.
