"Military-Grade Weapons and Explosives" Discovered in Thai Police Raid?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing a recent police raid in Thailand that had some rather substantial ramifications. I thought of making this video after reading a recent posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, from The Pattaya News Thailand @The_PattayaNews on X, quoting directly: IMPORTANT: In a dramatic operation on Friday evening, Police in Chonburi province raided a Chinese national's residence near Pattaya after a car crash let them to discover military-grade weapons and explosives, uncovering what authorities described as a small-scale private arsenal and alleged plans for explosive suicide bombing style attacks using C-4, assault rifles, mines and grenades." Now I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that posting on X and you can actually go further into The Pattaya News, I believe it's under thepattayanews.com to gain further insight.

Long story short, this was a pretty big deal, and it apparently was kind of a happenstance discovery. This happened as a result of an investigation which stemmed from an underlying traffic incident apparently, and then it resulted in basically going to this person's location and they ascertained that this person had all of these sort of military grade devices and weaponry and this kind of stuff. Again, exactly what's going on here remains to be seen. A full adjudication I'm sure and an investigation will probably have to play out with respect to this. But again, these developments in light of other ones, as I have talked about, the Thai Army has been mobilized in going after certain foreign activities involving folks doing business down on the islands. It's very clear to me, especially in the aftermath of this past summer here in Thailand, that notions of nationalism are high; the issue of national sovereignty is one that the Thais, myself included, are pretty zealous about, and now we are seeing apparently foreign nationals with all sorts of, in this situation with an arsenal, what can only be described as a small arsenal, and then the question you know is asked what was the intention behind that?

What's the upshot here for the Expat Community? I think we can expect more scrutiny, especially in the Immigration Sector. Also, I have talked about it before, the late, great Barry Kenyon brought it up last summer. He thought that there was likely to be some sort of comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill put on the Parliamentary Agenda. I disagreed with him at that time; frankly he was more prescient than I was. I think honestly, in light of the facts like these and these kind of stories coming out of not only the foreigners behaving badly on the kind of street level, but again you have got somebody with a small arsenal. They've got a situation now where it is felt that way more than a majority of all the companies that have been formed on a number of the islands - I did a video contemporaneously with this one talking about Koh Pha-ngan and Surat Thani Province - where it was like 68% of all the businesses had some foreign stake holding. I can see where that is raising some eyebrows with regard to folks in Thai Law Enforcement and where they are sitting there saying, "hey, where 70% of all the companies on this island have some sort of foreign involvement, that seems like something that we may want to look deeper into."

In light of this where it's foreign nationals that appear to have had some sort of violent intentions with regard to Thailand, and were able to amass or stockpile some level of weaponry in order to possibly undertake some sort of nefarious plan against someone here in Thailand - again, it remains to be seen exactly what the plans were - I think that this is a recipe for a situation where we're going to see a general tightening up of immigration matters paradigmatically. I think moving forward, policy makers are going to be taking a much harder line regarding Immigration and more importantly, from a practical perspective, I think Thai Law Enforcement especially Thai Immigration personnel are likely to be far more intense in their scrutiny of foreigners especially going into this low season.

So exactly how this plays out remains to be seen. We will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
