Thai Authorities Target "Fake Gold Scam"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well a fake gold scam, as the title suggests. Quoting directly from a recent article in the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Chinese gangsters arrested for fake gold scam. Quoting directly: "Six Chinese men accused of duping wealthy Thai Chinese in Chinatown into buying fake gold worth about 10 million Baht have been arrested with almost 200 fake ingots. The suspects were members of the "Mangkorn Jiangxi" (the Jiangxi Dragon) gang and allegedly swindle Thais of Chinese descent in Chinatown out of about 10 million Baht."
A couple of things going on here and the reason I thought of making this video was a) Thai Law Enforcement isn't messing around with fraud, that's pretty clear. Not a day I wake up that I am not looking at RSS feeds and all the news feeds that I don't see, Thai Immigration too but Thai Police, Immigration Police as well, pretty proactive. They are not messing around with crime down here in Thailand these days. Meanwhile, look Thai Gold, Chinatown specifically Yawarat, one of the hardest words I have pronouncing in Thailand, Yawarat, I don't know why, but yeah Chinatown it is like the epicentre of gold, I would argue it is the epicentre of gold in Southeast Asia, the gold trade and I'm pretty sure everybody involved in that gold trade wants to maintain the Integrity that gold trade. So when things happen that lead to people asking the question: "Well is there fraud in the gold trade?" Law enforcement wants to make sure that's not happening and that is in the interest of everybody involved in the gold business to make sure that there is no question with regard to the confidence that people can have in the Integrity of the gold system here in Central Bangkok, in Chinatown specifically. But gold shops are everywhere, this isn't a Chinatown specific thing. I just thought it was worth noting that a) yeah the gold scene in Thailand is massive by any stretch of the imagination and meanwhile law enforcement is on hand to deal with any problems, legal primarily, but legal problems that arise regarding fraud in the Thai Gold space.
