Thai Immigration Arrest a Foreigner for Porn and Drugs?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing a situation wherein a foreign national was arrested in Thailand for matters pertaining to drug offenses, as well as pornography. I felt like it was a good video to make to kind of remind folks the issues associated with pornographic material in Thailand.
Let's jump in here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Korean cuffed over porn. Quoting directly: "Immigration Police in Pattaya have arrested a South Korean national accused of distributing explicit videos online and possessing a large cache (I have heard they said a bunch of different ways - cache, cash, and people get all mad at me every time, so whatever, ‘cach’, cache - I don't care; I'm not French) Quoting further: "of illicit drugs, marking a major bust in a nationwide crackdown on transnational crime. The operation was part of a broader campaign ordered by National Police Chief Pol Gen Kittharath Punpetch targeting foreign criminal networks in major tourist destinations. Acting on intelligence, officers from Immigration Division 3 obtained a search warrant from the Pattaya Municipal Court and raided a local condominium unit on Sunday. During the raid, authorities arrested a 30-year-old South Korean man identified only as "Dong-geun," who investigators allege operated an X account to post sexually explicit videos featuring himself and Thai women. Officers also discovered a substantial supply of narcotics inside the condominium including 21.3g of crystal meth, 304.3g of ketamine, 296 ecstasy tablets, and nine etomidate vape pods."
So wow, this guy was loaded for a good time. Now the drugs alone obviously - we have done videos on that in the past - I mean this person is probably looking at pretty significant criminal penalties associated with that; presuming he is guilty obviously, it's the presumption of innocence.
Now that said, and the reason for the video, is to understand that look, pornography is restricted in Thailand; it is illegal. There are laws against making it; there are laws against distributing it. So the thing to take away from this video and understand is that even if you are coming here to Thailand and not have a bunch of drugs, if you are coming here to do things that pertain to pornographic material, you are probably going to want to find another jurisdiction. I expect there is a pretty good chance, and again hard to say, but there is a pretty good chance, the fact that this person was posting this stuff on the internet, and I'm not sure what the material looked like, but if it could be identified that it was occurring in Thailand, it might have caught the attention of law enforcement and obviously there were consequences for that.
Again more than anything in this video, kind of a Foreigners Behaving Badly video, but more than anything, I think it is worth reiterating that yeah pornography is illegal in the Kingdom of Thailand.
