Thai-Khmer Joint Efforts to "Combat Transnational Crime"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai-Khmer; basically we are talking about a sort of transnational co-operation going on here with regard to enforcement along the Thai-Khmer border. That's the border between Thailand and Cambodia for those who are unaware.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Khao Sod English, that is khaosodenglish.com, the article is titled: Thai-Cambodian Crackdown Targets Poipet-Based Criminal Networks. Quoting directly: "In a coordinated efforts to combat transnational crime, Thai Authorities have made significant progress against both call center scammers and online gambling operations with links to Cambodia. Senior Inspector General strengthens Ties with Cambodia. Quoting further: "Police General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, Senior Inspector General, recently concluded a diplomatic mission to Cambodia on March 13 - 14, 2025. The visit directed by Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Police Commissioner General Kittharath Phanpetch, focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation against Thai call center fraud operations. Quoting further: "During high level meetings with Cambodia's National Police, Immigration Office, and Telecommunications Regulator (TRC), Thai Officials expressed gratitude for Cambodia's recent crackdown in Poipet that resulted in 119 arrests of Thai nationals involved in various criminal enterprises." Quoting further: "These criminals cross our natural border to escape Thai Law Enforcement while exclusively targeting Thai victims.” said Pol Gen Thatchai. "Until now, when caught in Cambodia, they faced only minor charges like illegal entries since no crimes were committed against Cambodians. Upon deportation, many falsely claimed to be trafficking victims to avoid serious prosecution." So interesting that we are seeing major concerted efforts between both Thai and Cambodian Officials as it pertains to transnational crime.
I expect these efforts will probably become more frequent in the future frankly. I think there will probably be a lot of joint cooperation between law enforcement on both sides of that border between Cambodia and Thailand, as we have seen under somewhat similar circumstances dealing with matters pertaining to the Western border if you will over in Myanmar. So again, sort of analogous, not completely so, I think we are talking about kind of different things depending on which border you are talking about here in Thailand. But that said, it is interesting to see the level of cooperation we are seeing between Thai and Cambodian law enforcement.
