Thai Police Arrest Foreigners for Working "In An Occupation Not Permitted for Foreign Nationals"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well working illegally here in Thailand. I'm just going to jump in. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Illegal foreign hairdressers arrested in Bangkok.

As we have discussed in other videos, there are a number of foreign restricted occupations here in Thailand and those who engage in restricted occupations can be arrested, possibly subjected to detention, possibly subjected to deportation and blacklisting. Quoting directly: "Four South Koreans and one Myanmar national have been arrested at a hair styling salon in Bangkok for working in an occupation reserved for Thai nationals. Police raided a commercial building located on Sukhumvit Road on Tuesday at 3.15 pm. The name of the second-floor salon was not released. Officers found both Thais and foreigners working as hairdressers in the salon, with some customers waiting. Police apprehended two Korean men and two Korean women holding 90-day Tourist Visas as well as one woman from Myanmar. Their ages ranged from 24 to 33, said Pol Lt Col Thanakorn Ngamyen, Deputy Superintendent of the Khlong Tan Police Station. They were charged with working in an occupation not permitted for foreign nationals under Regulations of the Department of Employment."

Yeah, I have talked about this a lot. Notwithstanding the fact that there are those out there in the foreign community here in Thailand that seem to be content to basically just flout these laws, yes these are laws in Thailand. It is illegal to engage in certain occupations which I have discussed at length in many other videos, and you can see that there are consequences for this. That said, if there are consequences for this in a more sort of White Collar capacity, it remains to be seen, although if there are developments in that arena, we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.
