Thai Police Celebrate Christmas with "Anti-Crime Blitz"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing police activity here in Thailand. Notably as we are coming to sort of the apogee if you will or the zenith of the high season here coming into the Christmas, New Year sort of 10-day week if you will, there seems to be some concern among law enforcement about the massive influx of foreigners.

I thought it making this video after reading a recent article in the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Police launch anti-crime blitz for Christmas, New Year. Quoting directly: "Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum led an event yesterday (Dec 17) to launch a crime suppression campaign in the run-up to Christmas and New Year. More than 320 personnel, including police officers, soldiers, Navy security officers, administrative officers and volunteers were assembled for the launch, held at the Phuket Provincial Police headquarters. Quoting further: "Pol Col. Kasidin Chaikratok, Director of the Phuket Provincial Police Operations Division, outlined the objectives of the campaign, explaining that the Phuket campaign aligns with the Royal Thai Police's nationwide directive to crack down on crime from December 17 - 23." Quoting further: quote "As one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations, Phuket sees a significant influx of both Thai and international visitors during the holiday season. To ensure their safety, provincial officials have intensified security measures focusing on crime prevention, property protection and smooth traffic flow."

So yeah, we are seeing a major influx of tourists coming in and it appears that not only Phuket but nationwide, there is an initiative to if you will kind of ramp up police efforts to be maybe a little more on alert as we're seeing more folks here in country presumably especially over the holidays are going to drinking a little bit more than they otherwise would and there seems to be some concern of frankly trying to forestall political "foreigners behaving badly", I think that seems to be the message I'm reading from this.

Again, not necessarily having to do with foreigners exclusively though as you have to remember, especially coming up on international New Year, we do have a lot of issues especially pertaining to local as it pertains to drunk driving. So, this isn't purely a sort of "go after the foreigners" kind of thing. That being said, I think it's noteworthy that the police are prioritizing this period, and we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as this situation evolves.
