Thai Police on Registration Drive for "Ladyboys"?

Transcript of the above video:

Well this is yet another one of these videos that I put into the folder of "we don't see these headlines in Kansas". So I did a video on this, some, is it going back over a year now, we did a video on the police having to deal with what turned out to be an international ladyboy like Thunderdome; I don't know how to put it. It was basically a massive like street brawl between Filipina I believe ladyboys, and the local brand ladyboys and they were not happy with each other. Apparently, there was a territorial dispute or something and it was on like Donkey Kong, and I'm not kidding ,those ladies are not ladies you want to mess with, in that way.

So in that vein, here we go from the Phuket News, thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Patong Police register Bang La 'ladyboys'. Quoting directly: "Patong Police have started recording personal details of transgenders frequenting Bang La Road under the banner of improving tourist safety in the key Patong nightlife area." Quoting further: "Patong Police began registering Bang La transgenders, for decades locally called "lady boys", - look I am sorry. I am not going to get into this whole, "they need to be called something new now. They have always been called ladyboys here in Thailand; they call themselves ladyboys here in Thailand. It's not a pejorative term, it's just what they are called. Quoting further: "...on Wednesday and continued their efforts yesterday (Dec 19)". The aim is "to prevent incidents in the Soi Bang La area, prevent crimes, and strictly enforce the prohibition of harming tourists and property damage, causing disturbances, and to create a good image for tourists", Patong Police explained in a post online."

Yeah good, those are good initiatives and I tend to agree with that. Quoting further: "Present for the registration of the transgenders was Weerawit Kreuasombat, President of the Patong Entertainment Business Association (PEBA). The Association represents some 500 local entertainment businesses in Phuket's key tourism town." Well that is good news because it sounds like there was somebody on hand; we are not trying to bother people but we have had disturbances - most notably here in Bangkok - in the past and we just kind of want to stay on top of things. Quoting further: "Patong Police noted that while at Patong Police Station, the transgenders present were warned against unacceptable behaviour including brawling and fights." Because we know what happens. We do know what happens when they get a little agitated.  We saw it here on Soi 11 some months, if not a year ago back and man did it get rowdy. Well it looks like there's an influx of those folks as we're seeing an influx of tourists especially down there in Phuket and it looks like the Phuket Police are trying to be proactive in trying to forestall any problems. I think that that's a laudable desire; I think that's a good idea.

That being said as noted it looks to me like they were dealt with with dignity and it wasn't a situation where they were trying to castigate them for being themselves but just letting everybody know, "hey no brawling, no fighting, that's not what we want to have down here." I think that's a good thing so hopefully this will work out well for everyone. We'll have a nice profitable high season and we'll start off 2025 on the right foot, or in the right high heel stiletto if you will.
