What Is Thai Police CIB's Operation Dragon Slayer?
Transcript of the above video:
Say what you will about the Thai Police but man they come up with some of the best names for operations, I do you have to say. Let's just dig in here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, (if you can't tell, I am kind of laughing about this) the title of the article is: Police raids Target Chinese criminal ownership of tourist villas.
Now I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail, there's more detail in there, but we're going to get into this as well. Quoting directly: "Police have raided several businesses in Chonburi Province, including poolside villas, as they expand their investigation into alleged involvement by illicit Chinese businesses in the provision of accommodation for Chinese visitors." Quoting further: "The Central Investigation Bureau said on Monday that Economic Crime Suppression Division Officers on Sunday searched five properties, including villas housing Chinese tourists, as part of Operation Dragon Slayer." - Operation Dragon Slayer, like you notice from the template. I went on Brock over on X and had the AI drop me up an artist rendition of Operation Dragon Slayer with the Thai cops and their little armour with their swords going against the dragon.
Yeah look, at the end of the day, Thailand has been dealing for a long time with this phenomenon called the $0 Tour system whereby people pay all this money offshore to do tours in Thailand, and then they operate with this whole inside baseball sort of closed-circuit tourist system where Thailand doesn't get any of the money. And basically, it really upsets Thailand that all these people are pouring into the country - in a certain way kind of invading it to a certain extent - without actually interacting with the economy in any meaningful way, and they take steps to try to mitigate this. Quoting further: "According to the CIB" - and for those who are unaware, CIB stands for Central Investigation Bureau - "According to the CIB, the raids were part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that illicit Chinese businesses including Call-Scam gangs were investing ill-gotten gains in places of accommodation that were rented out to Chinese visitors." So, it's just a feedback loop of stuff Thailand doesn't want to have happen. They are taking the $0 money and now investing it illegally into Thai property using nominees it looks like that. Again, if you dig into the article, that seems to be the thrust of it.
Again, nominees are illegal in Thailand; again the $0 tour system is not something that Thai Authorities are real keen on, so I don't know what it is the Chinese are doing down here, but it looks like Operation Dragon Slayer is designed to specifically thwart all of these machinations.
