Foreigner Breaks Arm Behaving Badly in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

Unfortunately we are making a "Foreigners Behaving Badly" video yet again. In the thumbnail you see Dr. Evil yet again, kind of one of my favourites when it comes to 'go to zingers' but let's jump into this. And by the way, this isn't a particularly funny set of circumstances that happened here, but we'll get into it.

Quoting directly from a recent article in the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Brit's arm broken during dispute with Pattaya bar girl. Quoting directly: "A 66-year-old British man broke his arm when he tumbled during a dispute with a waitress at a beer bar early Wednesday morning. The incident happened at a bar on Soi 11 off Pattaya 2 Road about 3.40am." Well first of all, yeah, that is pretty late at night. You have got to ask; that's kind of one of those hours in the day, in the 24-hour day, when perhaps not the greatest things are always happening. That said, quoting further: "Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene and gave first aid to the injured man, who was inebriated." Quoting further: "Bar waitress Sureerat, 39, said the man tried to offer her more drinks but she also had other visitors to take care of. He became upset, scolded her and then punched her in the face." Come on. I don't care how drunk you are; there's being a man and then; this is wrong. That said, quoting further: "Another customer restrained the man, who fell to the ground. It transpired that his right arm was broken in the fall. Ms. Sureerat said no-one hit or hurt the man." And that's the reason for the Dr. Evil thing. When I read that, first of all I thought about, what an odd thing to say, “but no one hit or hurt the man” and maybe that is true, but I am just kind of going to give the old Dr. Evil’s sort of "riiiiiight!!" Okay.

In any event, the thing to take away from this video I guess it is obvious, don't hit women in the face; I thought we all kind of knew that, but 3.40 am, somebody is drunk, this person, as we say FAFO; I'm not going to use the full terminology there. Sounds like they got out of line and the end result was they themselves got hurt. So definitely, not something you want to do; definitely a situation of ‘behaving badly’.

Frankly, based on other footage I have seen of similar circumstances, he might ultimately have been a little bit lucky, it wasn't worse, all things considered. But I have to imagine this person was heavily inebriated and maybe it could have been worse under different circumstances, but it just wasn't. Again, not a good situation all around. Kind of another one of these scenarios where I just sort of think to myself - and look we all have bad moments especially drinking - and Pattaya is a party town, and that is kind of what it is billed as. I do get that. But at the end of the day, right is right, wrong is wrong, and hitting a woman in the face is always wrong. Especially somebody, you have got to kind of feel bad for the woman who was working. What is that line and the movie Casino where Joe Pesci is talking about, or Nicky Santoro, Joe Pesci's character is talking about – “and just some poor waitress who was working on her night off”. It kind of just seems like a situation like that where this woman was working hard, it's 3.40 am., this guy is clearly very intoxicated, he is kind of maybe being a little more romantically infatuated that she is interested in, and it all turned into a bad situation.

Hopefully this may act as a lesson to others so that we don't see these things in the future.
