Thai Supreme Court Sets Date for Thaksin "Incarceration" Ruling?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well we are discussing as the title notes in quotes, the ruling by the Supreme Court regarding Mr. Thaksin's "incarceration". Let me jump in here. Quoting directly from the Nation, that is nationthailand.com, the article is titled: Supreme Court to rule on September 9 in Thaksin hospital stay inquiry. Quoting directly: "The Supreme Court has set 9 September 2025 for delivering its ruling in a self-initiated inquiry into whether former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was unlawfully allowed to avoid prison by staying at the Police General Hospital (PGH)." Quoting further:

"Final hearing features testimony from Wissanu Krea-ngam. The announcement came after the final, seventh hearing of the inquiry, during which Thaksin's lawyer Winyat Chartmontree presented former Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam as a defense witness at 9:30am." And I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail. They go into details of why they called him, that he seemed to have some level of insight regarding the sentencing protocols etc. That said, quoting further:

"Court to decide if sentence was properly enforced. Quote: "Following Wissanu's testimony, the court scheduled the verdict for 9 September. The inquiry seeks to determine whether Thaksin's sentence -- handed down by the Court -- was properly enforced by the Corrections Department." Quoting further: "The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions launched the inquiry on 30 April 2025. Although it dismissed the petition from former MP Chanchai Issarasenarak due to lack of standing, the Court found his evidence "raised doubts" over the legality and fairness of the sentence enforcement." Quoting further:

"Earlier witnesses and evidence. Over six previous hearings, the Court summoned several witnesses including Bangkok Remand Prison Commander Manop Chomchuen, five doctors from the Medical Correctional Hospital, PGH doctors, prison guards, Corrections Department officials, and Medical Council Representatives."

Yeah, as discussed in other videos, then like the medical body here in Thailand sort of akin to the AMA in the US if you will, basically came out and said look we - I believe they actually sentenced or disciplined if I'm not mistaken, I did the videos on it at the time - they disciplined the doctors associated with this citing that they inappropriately basically found that he didn't really need the treatment or the facilities if you will, that he was accorded. So interesting here. That's why again the term "incarceration" is in quotes because what the Supreme Court is essentially trying to determine is whether he actually served a sentence or was basically given something akin to I guess and I don't want to put words in the Court's mouth or anything like that but something akin to, sort of “special treatment” for his "incarceration" and therefore could not be or should not be considered to have actually served his sentence.

So that's basically what's going on here with the adjudication regarding that matter. There are other pending cases. I saw one the other day, there may be a new one regarding some more recent activities and as that sort of percolates up through the sort of news webs if you will, I'll be probably sort of following that as well. That being said, this is the most pressing case at least for this moment and it looks like it is going to be, well there is another matter that is also arising that I think is coming up at the end of August but then this is going to be coming up on the heels of that it looks like in early September. So how all of this plays out remains to be seen, but we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
