Is Renting Property in Thailand Better for Retirees?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing renting property in Thailand and retirees. I want to be clear, we have done other videos on condos. We are not really talking about condos here, we are talking about like real estate, renting a shop house, renting a house, renting land and then maybe building something on the land or leasing something long term. More a rental but we are talking about real estate renting, property renting not so much condo rental although some of the analysis applies there as well. We have talked about that specifically in prior videos.

A question that has come up to me, a lot of people have asked me this. It is kind of a renter's market right now; it is buyer’s market too here in Thailand. There is a lot of property, there is a lot of real estate out there that is vacant; there are a lot of businesses that shut down and some people, expats and things left Thailand and as a result there have been there been some real deals in the property market. Now the question is, I mean as always I don't mean to sound like a broken record, it is going to depend on your circumstances, what you deem to be best for you but renting as opposed to buying, I can definitely see the advantages of going that way here in Thailand especially under the circumstances.

One thing to bear in mind especially if one is looking for a really long term rental opportunity, good idea to look into Thai leases and especially the formalities associated with long term Thai leases because if they are not properly formalized, they may not necessarily be enforceable under Thai Law. We have gotten into that in depth in many other videos regarding Thai leases. I urge folks who are watching this video, just go to the search function in our channel or go to our website, the resources section of legal.co.th, type in the search function there, you can just type in leases get a lot of information about that. But yeah I can definitely see the argument that renting property in Thailand is optimal for retirees here in the Kingdom.
