Anutin Dissolves House, Transition to Caretaker Government, and Elections?
Transcript of the above video:
We are making this video actually in the possible anticipation that over this weekend, or going into the weekend, Anutin Charnvirakul, the current Prime Minister of Thailand, it seems very likely that he may dissolve the House on the 12th. Now I'm making this before that date, and it's very likely we won't have the ability to make videos in the immediate aftermath of him calling for the dissolution, so I went ahead and made this sort of general overview video. Understand, this is not topical for the moment, it's just explanatory; it is what mechanisms will be triggered now that a dissolution has been called.
So again, this is based on news that officially he has dissolved House so I'll put a link in the description below. Again I'm making this video in anticipation of this, not after it has occurred. So in the event that it happens, we're on hand. It is kind of like, there's a Dana Carvey sketch where he's playing, I think Dan Rather talking about the demise of Gerald Ford, and there's all this - I'll put a link in the description below on that too - I'll try to make a thumb out of it. No I won't do a thumbnail for this one because this is kind of an important thing, but I'll put a link in the description below to that Dana Carvey sketch, if this video ever gets seen, because a dissolution was actually called. You can see the kind of thing we were creating, although that's farcical. We were creating this piece in anticipation of a possible dissolution, and I wouldn't actually be on hand to film this video.
So what's going to happen now? Again I'm talking generally, but if it's anything like the last time we saw a dissolution going back into 2023, the Prime Minister at that time Prayut Chan-O- Cha, called for the election, dissolved the House and then it set in motion a series of events, first of all triggering the Cabinet becoming an instantaneous caretaker government. So now we're not in the same type of Government where Cabinet resolutions and laws can be passed in the same way that they could be passed before. Matters that need budgeting might not be able to get done under a caretaker government. There's a number of things that change as a result of Thailand being under a caretaker government, but most notably it's under a caretaker government until an election is ultimately to be found, or to be held. So that is basically where things are at. It is sort of in a holding pattern while we wait for the election. We've seen this happen before. The House dissolves, closes and then we enter into sort of the election season, or the election cycle. Now there is going to be an interim period of time - I can't tell you how long it's likely to be between the calling of the dissolution and an actual election - but during that time period we'll have a caretaker government here in Thailand to operate.
I get into more this stuff in a bit more deep dive analysis on our paid news service, which if you're interested in getting on the email list for that, you can email us [email protected], and I can email you, we here at the firm, but on the media side for this paid news service stuff; it's mostly me and the producer. Basically we can email you all of the paid news service, long-form content made to date, and we can get you on the mailing list to get it all new as it comes out, but I likely will be discussing this. If we have a dissolution, I'll be discussing it quite a bit in upcoming videos on there, and as time goes on, we'll see the aftermath of that. But again this video is made in anticipation of that. Also, while I'm talking to my book, I guess it's fair to point out that my better half and I set up a restaurant here in downtown Bangkok, Pancake Palace, breakfast anytime, but also American Diner style food: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, grilled cheese, chilli bowls; we've got buffalo wings, we've got French toast, we've got breakfast food as well. We've got basically anything you would really crave in terms of American Diner style food here in Bangkok. If you're interested in that, come check us out, links are in the description below.
But rounding this out, yeah, it looks like the House has been dissolved; stay tuned to this channel as I will be keeping people updated with the details of how this is going to proceed accordingly here in the Kingdom Thailand.
