Aren't You Better Than This, Bangkok Post?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video might suggest, I am a little peeved at the Bangkok Post at this particular moment. I got that way, I am going to go ahead and throw this up on screen. This is an editorial, this was an editorial, I actually found this initially in the Bangkok Post print edition, we will throw up the online version and the title of this is: Weed bounty may go to pot. Reasonable people can disagree on the Cannabis issue. I definitely think that that is the case, I really do believe that. That's not like me just saying it or sort of saying it rhetorically, or whatever, I do believe that. In fact the way things are right now, it's not particularly how I would like to otherwise see it. I think this needs to be a highly regulated product on par with alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceutical drugs, maybe not quite to the level of pharmaceuticals, depending on what we are talking about specifically within the Cannabis space but I have no objection whatsoever to regulation. I can even be entertained or maybe I should say I can even understand the argument on illegalization. I think it's a bad argument but I can understand it.
The reason for this video, I read a recent article, again this editorial: Weed bounty may go to pot. A lot in there. I really urge those who are watching this video before you continue further here, maybe just go read it for yourself because the small excerpt I am going to quote here, when taken in the broader context of the article you can kind of see what I can only describe on a certain level as condescension and I would urge folks who are watching this maybe just pause this, go read it and then come back, might not be a terrible idea. Again I am going to quote a small excerpt because when I was reading through, I was reading through it and I was like okay, I kind of see both sides of that, this and that and the other thing, and then this just hit a nerve here. Again, Weed bounty may go to pot, Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com. Quoting directly: "So far several parties have expressed concern that the policy is not improving anything except the chances for small time "entrepreneurs" to make quick gains from a highly profitable product." Well golly gee, we wouldn't want any of those small-time entrepreneurs out there making any money would we? I can't believe somebody would say this after 3 years, or nearly 3 years of watching every single one of those small time entrepreneurs have their livelihoods eviscerated by policies which shut them down. Now whether or not you agreed with those shutdowns and lockdowns and all of this stuff that's a discussion for totally different time but what upsets me about this so much is I watched through this whole thing, how this impacted the local economy here; I watched it first-hand. I know people who died because they committed suicide because they felt they had no way forward because they were economically destitute, okay? These were cash and carry people; these were small time entrepreneurs okay? Now again reasonable people can disagree on the overall policy of Cannabis, of that there is no doubt but anything, anything in this world I mean within reason, within reason and I think Cannabis is well within reason, anything that could be done to ameliorate the suffering of the "small time entrepreneurs" here in Thailand is a good thing, anything that can do that. I'm not saying Cannabis is the answer to that but again for those watching this, read this in the overall context of the article and again I get the reasonable arguments back and forth, but to dismiss out of hand people who are trying to make their living especially coming off of what has largely been an economic desert the last two and a half years, especially for the self-employed and especially for some of the lowest rungs of this economy who make their money and live hand to mouth, I find it atrocious to just dismiss them, just some small time entrepreneur. I'm here to tell you this product ain't so highly profitable okay. I've been watching, I've been observing, I mean in a sense I'm a participant in all of this insofar as most people who watch this are aware we have this Cannabis entity that we are dealing with. I'm not really particularly interested in being in the retail space overall. I am looking at this more in the long term from the standpoint of legal work, just the more complex regulatory compliance and that kind of thing but nevertheless I have got my license and dealt with everything per Thai Law but man I have got to say, just the overall, I'm like shaking, I am so upset about this. I just want quote this: "So far, several parties have expressed concern that the policy is not improving anything except the chances for small time "entrepreneurs", as if there's something else. That is what they are; this is legal. They went and got into compliance and those that haven't, we have done the videos, mostly from Bangkok Post source material. They got arrested; they dealt with the consequences of that, of not being in compliance with the law.
After three years of all of this stuff, one thing I saw was, personally saw, is the impact the last 3 years have had, and we are now in March 2023 it has been 3 years, is the impact this has had on so-called small time entrepreneurs and by the way, if the only clients I ever get for the rest of my born days are small time entrepreneurs, I'll be happier for it. And for those who forget, an economy is built on small time entrepreneurs. Period, end of discussion. Yes big corporations they are out there, they do their thing but you want to watch an economy move - Napoleon once said that an army moves on its belly - and what he was saying was you have got to keep an army fed. Well what I would say is an economy moves on its small time entrepreneurs.
