The Bangkok City Council Needs to Get a Grip
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests - I am suggesting - Bangkok Council, City Council, needs to kind of get a grip. We did a recent video talking about how now they want to tell you how many pets you can have. Meanwhile, some weeks back, they were talking about how they wanted to low-jack all the urban poor and track and trace and surveil all their financial transactions when they are working and trying to earn a living out on the street. Now they're talking about, they want to microchip your pets!
What am I talking about? Well I found this article recently from Thai PBS World, that world.thaipbs.or.th, the article is titled: City Council endorses ordinance to microchip cats and dogs. I immediately started thinking of the meme back in the States from Trump, “they're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats”, but they're not eating dogs and cats, they just want to microchip dogs and cats over here. Quoting further: "Bangkok City Council approved a draft ordinance on Friday to make it compulsory" - compulsory – “for owners of cats and dogs in the capital to have their pets microchipped, to reduce the public nuisance caused by stray cats and dogs." Was there any massive hue and cry among the masses of the Bangkok proletariat if you will, that we need to microchip our pets? I am really starting to think that when you put Government bureaucrats together, nothing good comes out of it. They get together and they see problems. "Well, we have issues with roads and potholes and things. Hey, let's microchip pets!" I think somebody said in one of the prior videos, there was a comment that said, yeah, the worst thing about these folks is they sit around and find terrible things that are a “problem” so that they can come up with a solution because they can't actually solve any real problems. That said, quoting further: "The ordinance will come into effect as soon as it is published in the Royal Gazette for 360 days."
Well, if it hasn't been published yet; again they the Media keeps talking about this stuff as if it's just a foregone conclusion. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and people will say to the city council how about you worry about some stuff that's not about our pets, and our private lives. Quoting further, this is where it gets a little bit duplicitous: "The essence of the by-law is that a person living in Bangkok is not allowed.." - not allowed - I thought we were free! I thought we were Thai. When did the Bangkok City Government get to tell us what we are allowed to do or do not do, with regard to our own pets? Quoting further: ".. is not allowed to raise a cat or dog in public places or in the compound of other people without their consent." Well yeah. We already have laws on that. Why do we need another law that says we have to chip all our pets? Quoting further: "Bangkok is classified as a restricted zone, in which the numbers of cats and dogs that can be raised are controlled and I think they sort of went on in there, and I didn't quote it, and I'm sorry but I think they also sort of went on in there and said "well we just want to chip them, and we're not really going to tell you what to do otherwise." Well in another video I already made, they also want to tell you what to do with how many pets you can have per square kilometers of your home, and how many pets you are allowed to have in your own home.
All of this is nonsense. Seriously Bangkok City Council. Get a grip! Stop bothering everybody and start fixing the roads, or beautifying the city, or doing your job which isn't being a nuisance to the people of Bangkok.
