Can Entertainment Establishments Reopen on Phuket?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Phuket. Travel in to Phuket has been on the topic of much of the correspondence that I have been receiving over the past couple of weeks and one of the big questions aside from the obvious, Immigration matters, travel issues etc. one of the big questions is "Are entertainment venues going to be open? Am I going to be able to do anything once I am on the island?"

To be clear, where we are talking about entertainment, I am presuming folks are talking about bars, clubs these kind of things. My understanding is there will be a lot of activities that will be allowed to be open but as of yet, at least as of the time this video, it remains a little bit opaque as to whether or not or to what degree entertainment venues are going to be allowed to be operational.

In a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Phuket, Surat Thani Still Set to Open to Foreign Tourists. Quoting directly: "Representatives of entertainment venues met Phuket Deputy Governor Wikrom Jakthee at the Provincial Hall on Tuesday seeking permission to reopen their premises when the island province opens to foreign tourists on July 1. They also asked for assistance saying workers in the entertainment sector of Phuket had no income since the Government ordered the closure of their businesses to control COVID-19. They said they would operate while strictly observing disease control measures." I urge those who are watching this video to go check out that article.

As of yet I have yet to see a concrete response to that and I would even go a little further to say is in my opinion the answer seems to be leaning "no", that it is unlikely we are going to see, I definitely don't think you are going to see anything akin to just the gates opening and these entertainment establishments and venues just being able to operate unfettered. Hopefully, we will see some kind of perhaps truncated opening of these kind of venues, hopefully to allow folks that are operating in that industry to get some income and to be able to do some work. Also the folks are traveling in to Thailand that have to spend two weeks in Phuket, I am sure it would make their travel experience much more enjoyable to actually be able to for lack of a better term, do something while on the island. So it remains to be seen. We will try to keep you updated on this channel as quickly as we can as the situation evolves.
