"Collapse of Recent Parliamentary Meetings" on Thai Cannabis?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Thai Parliament and Cannabis Law here in Thailand. This is a video, I do not like to sort of bump over into the political arena, that is sort of beyond our bailiwick here on this channel. I prefer to keep it legal news, legal information pertaining to Thailand, the United States even in an international context but on this occasion, it is going to kind of via into that if only because Parliament is on its end run at the moment. We are coming to the end of this session of this Parliament and exactly when the session ends remains to be seen and then we are going to presumably go into election season here in Thailand so there is a lot going on. If this Parliament does not make some kind of determinations on some things, then it is kind of leaves things in a sort of legal limbo going into the elections.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Thai PBS World, that is thaipbsworld.com, the article is titled: Thai Parliament's final battle before election could decide country's future. I think that is a little bit of hyperbole but okay. Quoting directly: "A major concern for the Government is whether the coalition Bhumjaithai Party will attend the debate in full force. Some observers point to the possibility of the Party trying to "get even" with fellow coalition partners and the opposition for the mass absence of their MPs that led to the collapse of recent Parliamentary meetings deliberating Bhumjaithai's Cannabis and hemp Bill."
So for those who are unaware, and again we don't get too deep into politics here, but long story short this ultimately becomes a legal issue. Cannabis was pulled off the narcotics list back in 2022. We have been waiting for a Regulatory Act to be enacted with respect to the overall issue of Cannabis and barring that, it kind of leaves things uncertain and it seems like there is a possibility that this uncertainty may persist moving into the future. This is a reason, and I have said this before and I will say it again, foreigners need to be really, really careful and I mean really careful, about getting involved in the Cannabis space here in Thailand because this matter is not settled, legally speaking. And until it is I think foreign nationals could see themselves getting into something sort of for lack of a better term, biting off more than they can chew because down the road, things could fundamentally change and in fact I think that they will. Now exactly how they change and when remains to be seen, but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
