Do-It-Yourself Commenters: Please Stop
Transcript of the above video:
This probably seems like a weird video title and it's not me being particularly - I am not trying to point anybody out here but every once in a while we get these folks that come on to the comment section, the gal that helps me maintain, sometimes you will see me comment. If you ever see me comment on a channel, I will have BWH under my comment. Sometimes it's one of the girls that works here in our office that is just kind of looking at the channel. We get these comments from time to time where it will be somebody in the comment that will say: "this is how you do XYZ!" And I am not even going to go into substantive law here, nothing in the subject matter, okay? Just any topic we will get a, a lot of times though it is pretty visa-centric but it is not all the time but we'll get people that do a comment and they'll say "well this is how you do it:, they will say “it's just this step, this step, this step, this step." Yeah for you that might have been how it worked but that's not how it works for everyone. And in fact, the reason I am making this video is we had someone come to us that had been on our channel and had found some comment and had tried to do something, again specifically in an Immigration context, and got into a really bad position, a position where they almost got to the point of being blacklisted because they were trying to do something on their own and they thought that they knew how to do it because they had read a comment on, again one of our videos and that comment was erroneous. It was just not correct for the circumstances that this person was in.
So my point with regard to this video, and I will turn the comments off by the way just to kind of make the point even further. But yeah if you could please, we like comments; I am really happy people want to interact with us, that's great, but can you please not throw in your two cents in. I'm not really talking about people that just describe their own experience so much, it's folks that say: "No, this is how you do it, da da da da", but even then, let's keep in mind, things change, the situation is fluid. Look I mean the difference in my analysis of Thai Immigration matters now versus a year ago, are night and day for obvious reasons. There has been a huge change and again when comments go up we don't see all of them and we are not able to go through and filter every little thing everybody is saying on this channel. A comment could go up, we wouldn't pay attention to it - it could be years later and somebody sees that comment and thinks "oh that's how you do that", then they go and it could cause them a problem.
So again, the reason I continue to make these video blogs is exactly for that reason. To kind of keep things updated and keep things moving. So the thing to take away from this video, the thing to understand is, doing-it-yourself, I have got no problem with that at all, have at it, that's not my point. But when you go out, especially on our channel and sort of say something in a definitive manner about a process or a situation that is highly circumstantially dependent, it really is kind of doing a disservice to folks out there, sort of the public at large.
