Free Cannabis Plants in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the topic of free cannabis plants in Thailand. I got to thinking of this when reading a recent article from CNN, that is edition.cnn.com, the article is titled: Thailand to give away one million free cannabis plants to households, Minister says. "The Thai Government will distribute one million free cannabis plants to households across the nation in June to mark a new rule allowing people to grow cannabis at home, its Health Minister said. Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the move in a Facebook post on May 8th in which he expressed his intention for cannabis plants to be grown like "household crops." Quoting further: "The new rule, which comes into force on June 9, will allow people to grow cannabis plants at home after notifying their local government, but the plants will have to be of medical grade and used exclusively for medicinal purposes. Additionally, the Cannabis cannot be used for commercial purposes without further licenses."

Interesting. Big moves happening here in the cannabis space if you will in Thailand. As we have stated in other videos, there are a lot of restrictions associated with being able to enter into that industry. This is especially the case when it comes to foreign nationals looking to enter into that business. There is a lot of red tape quite frankly associated with that especially for foreigners because it really is a protected industry. Agriculture in Thailand is something that the Thai Government guards pretty zealously and in my opinion as a Thai, I am happy they are doing that to a certain extent. I do think reasonable foreign participation I think is a good thing, I think it can help the overall sector but Thailand's agricultural sector is definitely a sector that needs to be carefully maintained and I hope that that continues into the future.
