Licensure Of Entertainment Venues In Thailand

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Licensure of Entertainment venues and let's just dig into this. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Night venues warned to respect late opening rules. Quoting directly: "Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reminded the public that the extended operating hours for night venues, which allow such businesses to open until 4am, can be revoked if operators or customers fail to abide by the law." Quoting further: "Restaurants can operate until the early morning but they are not allowed to sell alcoholic drinks after midnight. Only venues which have a valid license can sell alcohol after 12am, said Mr. Anutin.” As we have discussed in other videos, there are specific Entertainment Licenses here in Thailand for specific types of venues and it seems to be that there is a zoning component to this recent change in operating hours. So there's sort of a physical proximity zoning component to this of allowing okay if you are in a certain zone, kind of designated as an entertainment zone, you can be open. Even certain cities are the only places where this is going to operate.

Meanwhile, within that zoning, there are Licensing requirements associated with entertainment venues that must be acquired in order to be able to be open for the extended hours, as noted in this article itself. And as I often urge folks go check out that article for yourself, a lot of good information in there. But long story short, yeah there is a licensing regime if you will, there are licensing requirements associated with maintaining an entertainment venue here in Thailand. Depending on where the location is one wants to set up an entertainment venue licensing may be very, very difficult or it may be relatively straightforward. It's going to depend heavily on the location where you are looking to get set up; it's going to depend on some of the local law enforcement and some of their particular ways of administering local law enforcement. So for this reason, yet again don't mean to sound like a broken record, but as with anything those who are looking to get a venue as an entertainment establishment are probably going to have to deal with the Licensing requirements based on the underlying facts and circumstances in that specific case.
