Not Everything Digital Is Bad for Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing not everything in Thailand that's digital is necessarily bad. What are we talking about here? Well let's jump in. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Board of Investment targets Thai digital hub status. Quoting directly: "Thailand has the potential to become a digital economic hub in Southeast Asia, driven by the growth of domestic data centres and cloud service businesses including recent investment from Google, says the Board of Investment (BoI). Google's plan to develop a data centre and cloud region here under a US$1 billion investment reflects Thailand's readiness for regional hub status in terms of digital infrastructure and market, said Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary-general of the BoI."
So we've discussed the Board of Investment in other videos in the past. It's notable that yes BoI can grant certain concessions for certain types of businesses here in Thailand especially where they are considered desirable from a technological exchange standpoint and I think Digital Data hubs would fall neatly into that category. Meanwhile it's worth noting also, Thailand has also set up another sort of trade encouragement initiative in the form of the Eastern Economic Corridor here in Thailand or EEC. That encompasses Chonburi, Rayong and Chachoengsao which does also include the incorporated City of Pattaya as well as the Laem Chabang Port area.
The Eastern Economic Corridor in conjunction perhaps even with BoI concessions could also be a major benefit to many businesses who are looking to come to Thailand and invest and set up their operations here. The thing to keep in mind when you're talking about any of this, again all of this bodes well for what appears to be a very bright future in the Thai tech sector.
