One Problem Solves Another in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing one problem sort of solved another here in Thailand - kind of an odd story here. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Chinese sneaking into Thailand injured by landmine. Now for those who are unaware, in the last few months, especially this past summer acutely, Thailand has had an ongoing dispute shall we say with Cambodia over at the border. And also over the years, due to the circumstances along that border, just the situation there generally over the years, has resulted in a lot of ordnance accreting if you will along the border, it has just sort of built up over time going back into the '70s and beyond for a variety of different reasons, due to a variety of different conflicts.
That being said, quoting directly: "A Chinese man lost his leg after stepping on a landmine while sneaking into Thailand in a contested border area in Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo Province early Saturday. The Burapha Task Force reported that the incident occurred at 5.50am. Border Patrol Officials heard an explosion from a forested area about 90 meters away from Sri Phen Road along the Thai-Cambodian border. Thai Authorities deployed a drone to assess the situation and discovered a man injured by a landline and calling for help in English." Yeah look, I urge those who are watching this video, go check that out.
Look, I don't want to celebrate a tragedy, somebody injured along the border is not a good thing, but I think that the title of the video is appropriate. There is a lot going on with illegal immigration. As I have discussed in other videos in the past few years Chinese influence in Thailand is shall we say, something that has been of concern to many. And then on top of it, you have got again the Border situation, immigration stuff, and this issue of unexploded mines. It's sort of like, "oh my gosh, one problem sort of solved another." It kept somebody from sneaking into the country but what kept him from sneaking in was ordnance that frankly we would probably all kind of prefer wasn't out there because it's so dangerous, not only to people trying to illegally enter the country, but to the troops along the border as well as other folks that live up there. So again, this isn't a video where I'm trying to be snarky exactly with the title, it's just it's appropriate; that's exactly what happened here. Thailand managed to be spared another illegal entrant into the country trying to come in and work illegally.
There was another recent article where they actually talked about, I didn't really quote it yet, I may go back and find that, but I think it was up, it was along one of the borders I think it was in Chiang Rai, near Chiang Rai but I could be wrong, where they actually caught someone sneaking right back in after being deported; I think it was another Chinese National if I'm not mistaken.
Now again, there's some degree of irony in the fact that again one problem solves another, but I'm mostly trying to show the fact that at the end of the day, yeah illegal immigration is a problem in Thailand. While we do have these other issues associated with the Thai Cambodian border specifically, it shouldn't be overlooked. And again this isn't the first one of these I've seen. Again Police basically detained and arrested somebody like immediately after trying to re-sneak back into Thailand. Thai Authorities are taking this stuff seriously, act accordingly.
