Peaceful Transition of Power Continues in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the peaceful transition of power and how that is continuing here in Thailand. As folks may be aware, we did some videos way back going back into May, May 14th I believe was the actual election date and now here we are on actually July 4th as it were, Independence Day in the United States, but July 4th here in Thailand. Yesterday evening, His Majesty the King and Queen, or Her Majesty the Queen I should say, they went ahead and opened Parliament and now today it appears that Parliament has elected a Speaker of the House.

So this is from Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Wan Noor is New House Speaker. Quoting directly: "Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, leader of the Prachachat Party, was the only nominee for the post of House Speaker when lawmakers met on Tuesday morning and was therefore declared elected under parliamentary regulations. Pita Limjaroenrat, leader of the Move Forward Party, nominated Mr. Wan Noor when the House began its first session. There were 496 representatives in signed attendance. Full attendance is 500." So basically the House opened and a new Speaker was elected so Thailand now has an open Parliament with a Speaker of the House. So from what I am reading, that should mean in coming week, we are going to see the House reconvene to go ahead and choose other Officers most notably to go ahead and elect the new Prime Minister.

So as discussed in other videos there is this sort of coalition process. It is somewhat similar to what I understand Scandinavian Parliaments to operate under where you have these elections and then they go in in coalition and try to figure out who is going to be the next PM. That is what is going on now but this was a major step and I know there was a little bit of uncertainty going into this as to who was going to end up being the new Speaker and apparently they have indeed picked Mr. Wan Noor who is the new Speaker of the House. That looks like, well doesn't look like, it is a done deal, so now we are going to go ahead and see things progress further. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
