"Private Sector" Thai Businesses Support Border Troops?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are basically discussing the ongoing tensions along the Thai Khmer border and what is basically going on here in Thailand as a result of that.
Now as of the time of this video or the making of this video, it appears things are relatively placid compared to what they have been over the past few days leading up to the time of this video. That said, by the time this video comes out, who knows what the situation will be. It's my understanding that there will be some kind of discussion or dialogue scheduled for I believe August 4th, between Field Commanders that will be occurring I believe in Phnom Penh, but we will be keeping folks updated on this channel as best we can.
That said, this article is coming from the Phuket News, that's thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Phuket private sector send support to troops on Thai-Cambodian border. Quoting directly: Private sector organizations in Phuket have joined together to raise funds and send moral support to Thai soldiers and civilians affected by ongoing unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border." Yeah, I wanted to make this just to be clear. Thais are really uniting together and supporting those who have been displaced. Those who have unfortunately lost their lives, have lost loved ones who have been injured in all of this as well as the troops who are guarding the borders as well. Everyone here I think I can say pretty sufficiently, I think I am in a position to say that look everyone here is behind our boys at the border, men and women in the services that are protecting Thailand at the moment. So I think that is worth pointing out. That said, quoting further: "The donation drive held on Saturday July 26th at Limelight Avenue in Phuket Town was led by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who accepted the contributions on behalf of those serving and sheltering in the conflict-affected region. As of 3pm on Saturday, the total amount raised stood at Bt.202,000 said an official report of the event. The funds will go towards supporting the mission of Thai armed forces deployed in the border area as well as civilians living in temporary shelters due to the unrest."
And to be clear, I want to be clear, this isn't just happening in Phuket or something. I picked Phuket to report on because it's so far away from the front. I think it's important to note, everyone in Thailand is in support of our troops; everyone in Thailand is in support of their fellow Thais who have been displaced by these unfortunate events, and I think it's important to note that that this is not viewed by any Thai I don't think as something that's only affecting those people over there. No, it affects Thailand; it affects all of us. We are here supporting each other and that's how it's going to be, and we're going to continue doing that. So I think it is important that that be pointed out, and it remains to be seen exactly how this plays out but we will continue to keep people updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
