"Public Urination" Leads to Injury of Foreigner in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
Yet again, another one of our entries in the "Foreigners Behaving Badly" category on this channel. Let's jump in here. This is coming from Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, reporting, the article is titled: Indian tourist injured in Pattaya after altercation over public urination. Quoting directly: "An Indian tourist, 52 years old" - okay. That's the first one. You're like okay, 22, the guy got drunk, he's whatever. Just saying - "52-year-old Rama Krishna, was seriously injured after a confrontation over public urination near Run Way Market on Pattaya Second Road on October 13. The incident occurred around 12:46am." Okay people do some things after midnight that they might not otherwise should do, especially if they are a little inebriated.
That said, seems like this one even a little overboard from even loosey-goosey notions of civility. Quoting further: "When locals confronted the tourist for urinating beside a fence instead of using nearby public toilets." Quoting further: "Witnesses said the situation escalated when the tourist and his companions argued with locals. During the altercation Krishna fell backward hitting his head on the ground leaving him unconscious and bleeding." Well that's not good by any stretch of the imagination. But one has to wonder if there was an altercation, was this person who was possibly, again, I don't know the facts, but could one infer from the facts that we have on hand that this person might have been intoxicated and may have fallen of their own accord; hard to say. Quoting further: "Emergency responders performed CPR and rushed him to the hospital. Authorities obtained partial CCTV footage of the incident and are investigating to the identity and prosecute the assailants according to Thai Law." Assailants? Who knows what's going on? Hard to say. It's always hard to say.
That said, let's kind of wind back to the main issue here, which is maybe don't pee outside in Thailand. Maybe use basic common sense like you would in your own country and use a public toilet instead of a fence. Maybe not a bad idea. One man's opinion. I don't know that reasonable people can disagree on this one. I think it's reasonable to presume people urinate indoors. But that being said, and what is it in The Big Lebowski, "every time a rug is micturated upon in this fair city, I have to compensate the person". I just thought of that thinking of this whole issue. The dude peed on my rug, whatever. But at the end of the day, just a good idea generally speaking to use the indoor facilities that are provided for the public for urination purposes, rather than again a fence which can not only lead you to problems with the locals in that area because they don't like people peeing on all their stuff, but you might end up being accosted and nobody wants to see that either. And where the bright lines are regarding good intentions and bad intentions and all of that is difficult to surmise but you are probably going to end up, you could end up injured, and you could end up dealing with the police. Just not a good idea. You know, "the dude abides, take your urination activities inside."
